The girls are getting ready for the dance but I don't feel like going.

"Jade come on it will be fun," Alison excitingly tugs on my arm. She's wearing a short baby pink dress, white converse and a white purse is slung neatly over her shoulder.

"I'm not in the mood." I say, pulling away from her grasp and going back to sulking under the covers of my bed.

"I will physically drag you out of that bed and down to the barn if I have to." Naomi raises her filled in eyebrows, her hands placed firmly on her hips.

She's wearing a two piece outfit, a white cropped top and a skirt. The crisp white contrasts with her dark skin perfectly, the tight material hugs at her curvy hips and breasts.

Her dangly golden jewellery clinks every time she moves her hands to flatten her straightened hair. I watch as she applies another coat of lipgloss.

"I really don't want to go," I whine, pulling the covers over my head and engulfing myself in the darkness.

"The best way to show everyone how well your handling the situation is to go to the dance." I hear Naomi's confident voice tell me from the other side of the room.

This girl has a solution to everything. I sit up in my bed, taking the covers off I sigh. "I don't want to see Will and also don't feel like pretending to be okay just so people think I'm happy." I groan, falling back into bed, "but I also don't want to miss out on tonight."

Alison stops running her hand through her light waves to look at me, "I know how hard it's going to be, but come on Jade it's summer!" Her face lights up, "We have to make the most of it whilst it's here."

I let out a shaky breath, she's right.

"Fine." I groan, getting out of bed and running my hands through my hair.

"That's my girl!" I hear Naomi shout as I lock the bathroom door behind me. After a much needed hot shower, I brush my teeth and apply some makeup. The other girls are still getting ready when I come back into the room in only a towel, moving to my suitcase, I hold up two dresses.

"This one," I look at the blue dress in my hand, "or this one." I look up to the girls and see Naomi eyeing both outfits carefully.

"Second one."  Naomi says without a hint of doubt, before turning away to put her shoes on. I check with Alison and she nods her head in approval. They've chosen the red dress. It's tight around my boobs and waist and then elegantly flows out and down to my mid thigh. I slip it on over a matching pair of black panties and style my hair into loose curls.

My dark blonde hair falls over my shoulders and I put a little blush over my cheeks to make me look less pale. My misty grey eyes look lighter due to the richness of the red material. I put on a pair of white air forces to be able to dance in, instead of the thin heels that Naomi has chosen to wear. The girls and I leave our phones in the cabin and lock up behind us, making our way into the warm summer night. We step through the double doors into the wooden barn, the large open space is lowly lit, hanging fairy lights make the room sparkle. The warm scent of wood mixes with the colognes and light perfumes of people attending.

A large booth is at the far end of the barn, the music and electronics are set up there. A song playing in the background drifts through the air, as little boys and girls run around giggling. Camp leaders are positioned around the room, just watching or talking to some of the children. I catch Hunter's eye from the other side of the room and give a small smile before looking away. The overlooking wrap-around platform upstairs, is crowded with teens, talking and laughing. A large square space has been cleared out in the middle of the room, a silky dance floor placed down.

People crowd in little huddles up and down the sides of the dance floor, drinking punch or taking pictures. I see girls in dresses or skirts and guys in button up shirts and jeans. The girls and I wander through the crowds of people until we get to our boys. Jax is dressed in a white shirt and black jeans, his black bandana around his forehead. Eli in a black shirt and dark blue jeans, his phone in his hand as he stands unbothered by the several guys checking him out.

The girls start talking to them and I only half listen, my eyes wandering around the room. I catch Jax complementing Alison, she's goes a shade of pink before thanking him. Out of the corner of my eye I see a blonde boy hunched in the corner, his dark eyes flick up to meet mine and I loose my breath. It's Will. His eyes are blood shot and I don't have to get any closer to know that he's been drinking. I decide to act mature and give a polite smile before looking back at my friends.

A song comes on that I recognise and I'm pretty much everyone in the room does too. Groups of girls drag their friends onto the dance floor and guys laugh, whilst throwing their arms over each other's shoulders and follow the girls lead."Oh my god," Naomi squeals, "we have to go," her eyes wide, "come on!" She grabs Eli and Jax by their arms and drags them into the crowd.

I look at Ali who has a massive grin on her face, watching as the boys try to protest but failing miserably. "Let's go." Ali shouts over the music and I chuckle. Why not? Alison and I join our friends and we all huddle as the music gets louder, people around us start to sign along. I feel the energy in the room start to build, people laughing and shouting as we all wait for the base to drop. My friends holding on to each other as we all eagerly anticipate the chaos that will break in a few seconds. People's feet leave the ground as the base drops, hands go into the air and all I can hear is the drowning music.

I feel the adrenaline rush through me, a massive smile on my face as I scream, "Let's get it started in here." I forget everything that has happened in the last few days as the music takes me away, Alison's hand in mine as we jump and shout along with the other teens. I see Jax and Eli both jumping and screaming along despite their original negative attitude. Naomi with her arms in the air as she shakes her head to the sides, making her hair fly everywhere. The whole group laughs, even if we look stupid we're having a good time.

The whole floor bounces as the hundreds of people sing along, loosing all stresses and cares as the music takes over. I shake my head along to the song, engulfed by the warmth of the bodies around me. I feel the blood in my veins rushing and pulsing through me. I close my eyes and let my hands travel up into my hair. Running my fingers into my roots, a lazy smile plays at my lips. I'm finally happy. This had been a long summer with so many ups and downs. But right here and right now, I feel good. I feel like me.
