In order to hunt a monster you must become one, after hunting a monster the hunter is able to absorb it to gain a new form that grants them the monster's powers and abilities. For example if they kill and absorb a fire dragon, then they get a fire dragon form that grants them fire breath and flight and so on. Also the forms vary from person to person, based on their soul type. If one person absorbs a dragon then they could form scales and wings, while if another did it they could form dragon themed samurai armor, and so on.
