I had kept an eye on Sasuke using my snake. One night, I followed Sasuke as he walked through the night. It looked as though he was leaving the village. Suddenly, we were stopped by Sakura. "It's the middle of the night. What are you hanging around here for?" He said by way of greeting.
"This is the only road that leads out of the village," she replied. There seemed to be something sad in her eyes. Suddenly, as Sasuke walked away, she started crying. "Why don't you tell me anything? Why is it always silence with you?"
"I don't have to tell you anything," he snapped. I felt extremely sorry for Sakura. "Just keep your nose out of my business, it's none of your concern".
"I know about your plan, Sasuke. But seeking revenge, that won't bring anyone happiness".
"I'm not the same as you. I'm travelling a path the rest of you can't follow. I know that the five of us have worked together, and for a while, I thought I could take that road instead. But (Y/N) left, so where does that leave me?"
I looked down in sorrow as a tear trickled down my face. 'I'm so sorry Sasuke...'
Meanwhile, the two of them continued talking. "In the end, I've decided on revenge," Sasuke finished.
"Don't do this Sasuke! You don't have to be alone," Sakura begged. "I have a family and friends, but if you were gone, that would be the same thing for me as being all alone. I'm so in love with you, I can't even stand it!" I nearly fell out of the tree I was in out of shock. We all knew her feelings for him, but to have her admit it so openly... "I'll do anything for you, so please don't walk away!"
Suddenly, he disappeared and landed right behind her. He muttered the words, "Thank you" before he knocked her out. At least he had the decency to place her on a park bench first rather than leave her on the cold floor.
Right before he walked away, I heard him mutter the words, "I'm sorry, (Y/N)". Then he threw a kunai at my snake, cutting off my connection.
I clenched my fists. 'Damn it Sasuke!'
Itachi appeared behind me. "Is everything alright?"
I turned around to face him. "Sasuke's gone off to join my father," I said through gritted teeth.

The next day, the Hokage was meeting with the newest Chūnin, Shikamaru Nara. "Late last night, Sasuke Uchiha left the Hidden Leaf Village," she explained. "We're quite certain he's headed for the Hidden Sound Village".
What the Hokage said shocked Shikamaru. "He just left?! How could this happen?!"
"Orochimaru must have him in his clutches".
"What does Sasuke have to gain by talking to someone as depraved as Orochimaru?"
"His motive doesn't matter. We need to deal with it quickly".
"So all I need to do is bring him back?"
"Yes that's your mission, but it must be accomplished without delay, and you may find it a more dangerous task than you think. There is a strong possibility that Sasuke is being guarded by Orochimaru's men".
"If we're facing opposition, I'm going to need a team composed exclusively of Jounin and Chūnin".
"As I'm sure you're aware, most of the Jounin have been sent out on missions. Go round up any skilled Genin you feel are up to the job. There is one person I strongly recommend you include, Naruto. And if you happen to run into (Y/N) on the way, be sure to try and ask her to join you". With that, Shikamaru walked away.

Later that day, I was sitting on a tree branch with Itachi trying to handle the fact that Sasuke was joining the man I hated most. Suddenly, we both sensed someone coming. We shared a look then he disappeared.
I looked down and saw Shikamaru, Naruto, Kiba, Chōji and Neji walking on the ground. "Do you wanna tell me where we're going?" I heard Naruto ask.
"Just wait," Shikamaru answered. "Man, this is such a drag".
I quickly wiped my sorrowful expression and replaced it with a smirk. I jumped down and appeared behind them. "Can I help you?" They jumped at the sound of my voice. My smirk only grew. When they spun around, I pushed myself away from the tree I was leaning against and started walking towards them. "Is there a reason you're wandering through the woods looking for me, or did you just come here for a chat? Because if so, then you've only wasted your time".
Shikamaru stepped forward. "Sasuke's left the village," he started.
I cut him off. "I'm aware".
"We're trying to bring him back before he crosses the border. Why don't you help us out?" he asked.
I thought about it for a moment before I replied, "No".
Naruto started angrily walking towards me but was stopped by Shikamaru. "He's supposed to be your family! Don't you care about him at all?"
I closed my eyes. 'You have no idea'. I opened my eyes with my smirk still plastered on my face. "Things are different now. I'm a rogue ninja now, so why should I dirty my hands for the sake of that place?"
"The village was your home! How can you stand there and belittle it like that?" Naruto asked, hurt in his eyes. My heart broke seeing him like that.
"That village took everything from me!" I snapped. "I could care less about it now. As for Sasuke, why should I waste my time trying to save someone who clearly doesn't want to be saved? You're just wasting your time. If you want my opinion, you should just leave him be".
Naruto clenched his fists. "How could you say that?" I didn't answer. After a moment, Shikamaru glanced back at his team and nodded. Then they disappeared, leaving only Shikamaru behind.
He let out a sigh. "This is such a drag". He turned to look at me. "The Hokage told me about your mission".
My eyes widened and I started shaking. Could she really have told him? I couldn't be sure so I did the safe thing and started feigning ignorance. "What mission?"
"The one where you have to spy on the Akatsuki".
I quickly placed my hand over his mouth. "Keep your voice down!" I hissed. I slowly removed my hand. "Why would she tell you?"
"Out of everyone that took the exams, I'm the only one who made Chūnin. Besides, I'm the leader of this platoon and she asked me to try and recruit you, so I needed to know what was going on".
"Fair point". I let down my guard as I sighed. "I'm sorry but I can't, not without compromising my mission. I'll try and talk to Aunty Tsunade to see if we can come up with a better solution, one that doesn't get me killed". With my reassurance, he was gone.
I let out the breath I'd been holding as a tear trickled down my face. Not a moment later, Itachi appeared behind me. "Are you alright?"
"That was a lot harder than I thought it would be," I replied.
"What now?" he asked.
I clenched my fists. "I need to have a little 'chat' with my godmother". I turned to Itachi. "Do you mind keeping a close eye on them?" He nodded then we went our separate ways.
