~After a few days~

It's been 3 days since the hurricane came. Glen with his wife and kids, Dale, Lauren, Hank and I helped each other with the cleaning up with the whole house.

"Mommy, I'm tired.." I heard Lauren said as she laid on the couch. Hank went near me and he put his arm around my shoulder. The two of us laughed at Lauren and she dramatically sighed and put her arm on her face.

"You're dramatic like your dad." I commented and Hank removed his arm on my shoulder and he put it on his chest mocking that he's hurt.

"That hurts, Missus." Hank told me as he squinted his eyes at me. I just rolled my eyes at him and everybody laughed at him.

"Oh, hush up man!" I said as I throw a small cushion on him. Everybody laughed at us and I held Lauren's hand in mine.

"Let's go to daddy's room first. You take your afternoon nap." I told her.

"Okay.. Bye daddy.." Lauren said. Hank bent on her level and they hugged each other.

"Sleep sweetly darling."

"Okay daddy." Hank kissed Lauren's cheek and Lauren went to me and I held her hand and we went upstairs. I'm glad we finished cleaning the upstairs. We went to the bedroom of Hank and Lauren laid on the bed and I tucked her in with the blanket.

"Sleep tight sweetie." I told her.

"I love you mommy."

"I love you more sweetie." I said and I kissed her forehead and she closed her eyes and I slowly walked out of the room. I closed the door behind me and I walked downstairs and saw Hank with his dad at the yard, drinking a liquor. Glen was also looking at the window. I went beside him and crossed my arms.

"They're okay now?" I asked Glen.

"Hopefully, yes."

"I think so too." I said and the both of us chuckled.

~Trial~

This is the day of our fear. Me, Lauren, Glen and Dale are sitting on the pew behind Hank. I went near the barrier and Hank held my hands and he buried his face in my hands.

"Calm down.." I softly told him.

"Thank you for being here. I wouldn't know what to do without you here." Hank said.

"I'll be beside you no matter what." I said.

"I love you.." Hank went near me and he peck my lips. Just then, the Judge came in and we all stand.

"Jury entering. All rise." Said the deputy. When all the jury came in and sat, we all sat as well.

"Mr. Foreman, have you reached your verdict?" The Judge asked one of the Jury.

"We have, Your Honor."

"What you say in the matter of the State of Indiana v. Joseph Palmer... on the charge of murder in the first degree?" The Judge asked.

"We find the defendant not guilty." The jury said and that calmed me and Glen. Glen held mine and Dale's shoulder as we hear the trial.

"And on the lesser included charge of voluntary manslaughter?" The Judge asked.

"We find the defendant guilty." WHAT?! The court begun to erupt in different opinions until the judge hit on his hammer.

"Order."

"This case has been a most tragic occurrence... as I am required to impose an appropriate sentence. But as you know all too well, sir... that is the job. I am therefore sentencing you to serve four years in state prison. Sentence is to begin forthwith." The Judge said.
