Noah's P.O.V
It's been a year since the outbreak. We stayed in the house we found on the first night. It's become our new home. We haven't heard anything from anyone else in a whole year. I think they're all gone and so does Griffin, Josh and Anthony won't accept the fact their boyfriend is dead and Kio isn't giving up hope. The house had a gun cabinet, lucky for us it was fully stocked but we haven't had to use it much, only when we go to other houses. That's were we get supplies, by raiding other houses, it's not like we're stealing because they're all gone. Only zombies left. We have a large map of the area with all the houses that we've looted crossed of with little red exes but there aren't many left without crosses so we'll have to expand the area soon.
We won't dare go into the city, the closest we've been is a fuel station right on the edge, to fuel up the car, i'm not sure what we'll do when that runs out but I hope it's not anytime soon.
Over the year we've discovered many things about the zombies, for example sunlight burns their skin so they retreat to darker places during the day hours. I remember on the very first morning after the outbreak, we made the mistake of thinking they disappeared, we had stayed outside until dark and if it weren't for the guns we'd probably all be mindless zombies by now.
The most common of the zombies are runners. I've seen and killed plenty of them but they're fast and I've had several close calls. Darters are easy to kill the only problem being that they can see you unlike the rest. I haven't run into many ghost zombies, the only time being when a couple months in Kio thought it was human because it wasn't burning and ran towards it. Griffin managed to shoot it before it harmed Kio but we learned to look out for them after that. Rock zombies are hard to take down because of their size and strength so instead of wasting bullets we just run from them. The final type is a mirror zombie. I've never encountered one the only person who has seen one up close is Josh. The one he saw was a mix of a darter and a runner, when he was setting a trap he saw it so like any other situation he stayed as still and quiet as he could, but because of the darter part of it it saw him. He didn't expect it to because it looked like a runner so it startled him and he barley escaped with his life.
We all wouldn't be alive if it weren't for each other and I'm so grateful for each of the other boys, I don't know what I'd do without them.
When a raid doesn't go well Josh's traps will always make up for it by catching some wild animal, and Kio's cooking skill has allowed us to eat without hating it. He hates fighting so he learned other things instead and it really paid off, he can make the most dull foods taste good. Anthony has saved each of our lives countless times, he was tired of seeing people he knew in all bloodied and horrible so he kills from a distance. We don't recognise most of the zombies, most being too mangled to tell, but when I do it always catches me of guard. Griffin and I mostly fight the zombies, always being the first to enter an abandoned house or room, but when it's needed he can take care of any wounds we have.
I don't want to think about what I'd do if one of us got infected. It's a thought that I try to push to the back of my mind but it sometimes comes and haunts me in the night.
Living in this post apocalyptic world is hard. Sometimes I envy our other friends because they didn't have to experience it and they're in a better place but I miss them so much, we all do. I've heard both Anthony and Kio crying in the night and I can see the pain in both Josh and Griffins faces sometimes. We aren't really living anymore, just surviving, to see each new sunrise. I like to think I'm doing it for them.
A knock on the door broke me out of my thoughts and I looked up at Anthony who was standing in the doorway staring at me.
"Griffin wanted me to tell you that were leaving in 10 minutes." He said and I nodded, he hesitated in the doorway and I gave him a questioning look.
