Quinton's P.O.V
The noise around me was muffled and I couldn't breath properly as Jaden's strong grip on my arm kept pulling me forward. Tears streamed down my face before I felt my legs give out from underneath me. Jaden still held onto my arm as I fell to the floor. Two blurry heads appeared above me, they were both yelling things and I could hear someone else screaming but I couldn't see them. I felt my eyes closing as a pair of arms lifted me from the ground. My breathing became shallow and black spots covered my blurry vision. I tried to blink them away but soon my whole vision went black and the noises went quiet.
"-inton? Quinton?! Hey! Wake up!" I felt my self waking up as someone was lightly slapping my face. My vision cleared and I saw Blake's tear stained face and worried eyes staring at me.
"Yeah?" I coughed and tried to sit up. Blake quickly moved to helped me and I weakly smiled at him. I took in my surroundings and realised that Blake and I were in that back of a car with Jaden and Bryce in the front, Jaden was driving. "What happened?" I asked still slightly dazed.
"Outside or with you?" Blake replied.
"Outside?" I questioned. What was happening outside? I looked out the window at the people and chaos and gasped.
"WHAT THE HELL?" I yelled, starting to panic again, I felt my throat closing up.
"Hey Quinton breathe! It's okay!" Blake said trying to calm me down.
"Okay?! That is DEFINITELY NOT OKAY!" I said slamming my palm against the window beside me.
"I know, I know but-" Blake tried to speak but I cut him off.
"No shut up, what the hell is going on Jaden!?"
I yelled at Jaden who had been silently driving along with Bryce who seemed completely out of it, staring at nothing.
Jaden sighed before speaking. "I... I don't know what's going on Quinton. All I know is we have to get out of here. So that's what I'm trying to do."
"Here? What do you mean here?"
"The city." I turned my attention back to Blake, giving him a weird look. "The city is overrun with these- these zombie things-"
"Hold up- Zombies?!" I cut Blake off unsure is he was joking or being serious. "Go from the start."
"Okay well do you remember anything from before you passed out?" Blake asked. I thought for a moment trying to remember.
"The memories are a bit fuzzy but I remembered being at the party, confessing to Jaden, you came over, someone screamed, there was chaos, then there was that awful thing and then- shit Addison." I recalled. Bryce visibly stiffened in his seat and Jaden reached across to rub his shoulder.
"Wait what do you mean 'confessing to Jaden'?" Blake asked, confused.
"N-never mind that what happened after I passed out." I stuttered.
"Well I picked you up and Jaden lead us down the stairs and out the door, past so many people and those 'awful things' but when we got outside the streets were crawling with them, so We got into the nearest car, hence why the windows broken; Jaden had to break it to get in." Only now did I feel the slight breeze coming from the cracked glass in the drivers seat window. "We drove away as fast as we could, but there were so many of those things and people dying around us it was awful." Blake explained, his words chocking at the end and fresh tears spilling down his cheeks.
I grabbed his shaking hand and he looked at me gratefully. "So what are they then? The things." I asked to no one in particular.
"Well we said it earlier; we think they're zombies of some kind." Jaden said, making short eye contact with me through the rearview mirror, before flicking his eyes back to the road.
"I thought zombies were completely fictional." I mumbled.
"Yeah so did I until today." Jaden said. "I'm just mad we didn't hear anything before they were right on top of us."
"That's what we get for going to a party I guess." Blake said.
"Well we didn't know that would happen did we?" I said.
"Maybe if we heard before I could have saved her." Bryce suddenly said, I looked up and he was glaring at the dashboard. "Or maybe if someone hadn't dragged me away so fast we could have saved her."
"Look Bryce I'm sorry your girlfriend died, I really am she didn't deserve that, no one did, but what happened happened, it wasn't my fault." Jaden said.
"We could have saved her though!" Bryce snapped back.
"If you've ever seen any apocalypse film before you know when someone gets bitten they die or they turn into one themselves!" Jaden said getting frustrated.
"You don't know that! What if it was different? She could still be alive if it weren't for you." My eyes switched between the two as they argued.
"Have you seen how many of them there are?! It has to spread some way!"
"But-"
"SHES DEAD!" Jaden yelled, his knuckles turning white as he gripped the steering wheel harder. Bryce looked a little taken aback by Jadens outburst and I watched as sadness crossed his face but it was gone as soon as it came, replaced with anger.
"WELL MAYBE IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN YOU INSTEAD!" He yelled back. Jadens eyes went wide and his expression turned to one of hurt.
"I- you-" he stuttered. Bryce looked like he was about to say something else but I interjected before he could say anything more.
"Okay enough! We are all very sad at Addison and so many more of our friends deaths but Bryce that was really harsh, I know your hurt but don't throw it on someone else. It doesn't even feel real being is situation, it's almost like a dream or a nightmare really but we have to focus on getting out of here and you two fighting isn't going to help."
Bryce sighed and closed his eyes, letting his head fall back against the headrest. Jaden kept his stony expression fixed on the road ahead.
A moment passed and then Bryce opened his eyes and sighed. "Quinton's right. I'm sorry Jaden I shouldn't have said that." He said looking at his hands.
Jaden briefly looked at Bryce before speaking, "it's okay I know your upset, just maybe think before you say something like that again?" Bryce nodded and the car fell silent again.
"What do you think happened to Griffin, Kio, Anthony, Josh and Noah?" Blake asked into the silence and then added much quieter. "Do you think they are okay?" No one spoke.
This was a question that had been on my mind since I woke up I just never voiced it out loud. They had been at the Sway house so there's a chance they could have been warned or heard the zombies and got out safely before everything went to hell. Or maybe they stayed in the house, I'm not sure what the warning would have told them to do, if there was a warning anyway.
"I don't know." Jaden finally said. "But I'm sure they are safe either outside the city or locked up in the house."
"Is that were we are going then?" I asked.
"What?"
"Is that were we are going? Outside the city?"
"Yeah that's we're we're trying to go but before you woke up we had tried to get on to the highway by the nearest entrance but it was blocked with so many cars because so many people had tried to get out meaning we had to go deeper into the city to get out." Jaden explained.
"Okay" I said attempting to stifle a yawn. The time on the dashboard radio read 01:32.
Jaden chuckled turning his head to look at me. "tired are we?"
"A bit yeah" I smiled sheepishly. Jaden was about to turn back to the road when Bryce laughed at us so Jaden turned his attention to Bryce and grinned. He opened his mouth to say something when suddenly a bright light came out of nowhere and brakes screeched.
"JADEN CAR!" I heard Blake scream before it all went dark for the second time that day.
