Anthony's P.O.V
Josh held my hand as we ran through the main doors of the hype house. Kio and Griffin sprinted off to search through the bottom floor. We paused and looked at each other, I nodded and we took off running to the stairs. We raced up three floors past bodies of people that I did and didn't recognise, each one making me want to gag. The smell was awful and the whole place looked a mess but there was no zombies yet which I was still contemplating if that was good or not.
"Okay... wow they must've been hit pretty hard." Josh said taking in the room. The whole place was trashed. Drinks and things spilled on the floor would be normal for a party as wild as the one that took place here but the blood and scratches all over the walls and floor said otherwise. Not to mention the flashing lights and music were still on.
"You check that half I'll check the other." I shouted over the music to Josh, he nodded but before he went there he pulled a large black plug out and the music cut out. If there was anyone in the room they would have come out already and I knew that we were really going to have to look at the faces of the poor bodies of people that lay lifeless on the floor.
At every new face I braved myself for the fact that it could be one of my best friends or even my boyfriend's blank eyes staring back at me. I was incredibly relieved when I finished checking all of the faces that none were Bryce, Blake, Quinton and Jaden's. I let out a sigh of relief but then remembered that just because I didn't find their bodies didn't mean they hadn't been infected.
"Hey babe look at this." Josh called out to me and I walked over to him. He was holding something in his hand and at closer inspection I realised it was Blake's jacket.
"Okay but that doesn't mean he's dead or infected." I said.
"Ok but it also means he left quick enough that he forgot his jacket."
"I'm sure he wouldn't care about his jacket very much if he had just been told there was a highly dangerous disease spreading round the city."
"I guess." Josh said and bundled the jacket up in his hand. "Okay let's check th-"
"Josh! J- Josh! Help!" A boy came hurtling out of the hallway to our left.
"Caleb?!" Josh exclaimed rushing forward and crouching next to the boy. My eyes widened as I took in the state he was in, his right arm was covered in bite marks and blood along with half his torso. His eyes were filled with fear and he was breathing fast as his veins slowly turned a darker shade of purple, spreading up his neck.
"Josh." I hissed.
"Caleb hey it's gonna be okay we'll help you." Josh said stroking his friends hair, trying to calm his groans of pain that were slowly turning more zombie-like as he was turning into one.
"Josh." I said again trying to tell him without really telling him that Caleb wasn't going to make it and we needed to get out of there before he turned and infected us too.
"Okay come on we'll help you." Josh looked at me. "Right? Anthony were gonna help him yeah?" Josh said his voice cracking at the last part. I think he knew what I did but didn't want to accept it. He looked at me and my eyes filled with tears but I blinked them away and shook my head slowly. A year slipped from his eye and travelled down his cheek as he looked at the boy, his friend, who was even closer now to turning.
"T-they came- th-th-they're c-coming." Caleb wheezed.
"What?" I said suddenly more alert "Who? Who's coming?" But my question was answered by a shriek coming from the direction that Caleb came from.
"Oh god. Josh! We have to go now!" I said shaking his shoulder. He shook his head and more tears spilled down his cheeks.
I grabbed Blake's jacket and another shriek erupted from the hallway and soon a body flung itself out. It was mangled beyond recognition but it was wearing clothes fit for a party, a little ripped and bloodstained but probably once looked nice.
