Blake's P.O.V
I sat in the back of Jaden's car staring out the window while my finger subconsciously traced over the scar on my stomach, underneath my T-shirt. Jaden and Bryce sat in the front of the car and Quinton and I in the back, this was how we always drove.
Jaden, Bryce and Quinton where laughing and talking about something, I wasn't listening, just staring out the window as the scenery whizzed past. The overgrown parks, plants sprouting through the cracked roads, abandoned cars and random wildlife scattered around the city had just become normal to all of us.
Ever since the night of the outbreak and the crash Jaden had focused on driving after finding a decent car in some part of the city that I can't remember the name of even though he's told me it thousands of times. You might think after being in that crash that he'd never want to drive a car again in fear it may happen again, but that wasn't the case for Jaden, no he loved doing it and he was definitely one hell of a driver.
Just as I was thinking of that the car took a sharp turn and accelerated before hitting one of the many ramps Jaden had built throughout the city. The car flew over an old truck and hit the road on the other side. Jaden and Bryce yelled in triumph, Quinton laughed and I grinned.
It had become a regular thing to spend the day racing around the city for fun since it was the middle of the day and as long as we kept to the streets and didn't go anywhere dark we were completely safe.
For the first few months Bryce has been miserable, we all had but Bryce especially so because of his girlfriend. Sometimes not eating for days or leaving his room, only coming out after Quinton had managed to persuade him. I think there's something going on between them whether they realise it or not but I haven't said anything about it yet. We held a small funeral-like thing in a park in memoriam for all the friends we had lost. However in the past few months Bryce has been a lot better finally getting over Addison and I've seen him smiling a lot more.
Jaden still misses both his boyfriends and we all miss all the other boys. I still have hope they could be alive out there somewhere but I know they're not in the city, there's only Zombies.
All the other boys have some sort of skill that comes in handy like Jaden with his driving. Bryce is really good at planning things and getting us out of tricky situations, he's saved us all many times for that reason. Quinton is one smart kid and most of the time he'll help Bryce plan any outings that could potentially be dangerous, I've heard him talking about a cure for the disease on more that one occasion. A cure would be amazing but unfortunately he has no idea how to start.
Sometimes I get the feeling that it wouldn't make a difference if I was there or not. I don't really have a special skill all I do is help fight the zombies. I'm not the best at it and I hate doing it because they terrify me but if I didn't do it I would officially be useless. I've never said this to any of the other boys but I'm pretty sure they all think it too.
The car spun around another corner, the tires screeching on the road in the process, and came to a stop.
"Congrats man, you just beat your best time!" Bryce exclaimed holding up an old stopwatch. Our phones had died ages ago and there was no working electricity so we had to stick to battery powered things.
"Nice." Jaden grinned. He started the car up again and continued driving, slightly slower this time.
"Deer." Quinton said and we all turned to where he was looking and saw a small heard of dear grazing on the road.
"'Oh what I'd do to have some actual fresh meat for once in so tired of all the canned shit." Bryce groaned.
"I mean we could try shoot one of them but it's hard." Jaden said.
