Kio's P.O.V
I'm almost completely recovered from the slight fever I had, or really, I'm recovered but Griffin doesn't seem to think so. I can tell he's been more overprotective lately and I understand but really it was my fault for not taking care of myself. Sometimes I even find myself blaming what happened to Anthony on myself. I don't know what I'd do if we never got a cure.

I said this to Quinton once and he said it wasn't my fault, it was just in a very unfortunate time and place. I'm glad I can talk to him because he always listens to me about my problems and vise versa.

Since Josh and Jaden separated from us I can tell it's made Griffin more tense. We're all worried of course but Griffin always blames it on himself if anything happens to any of us. I do my best to tell him it's not his fault but he isn't the best listener.

We've made it across the state border between Kansas and Colorado, now driving through the scenic wilds of the Kansas countrysides.

It's actually quite draining, being in a car constantly. It's so dull and hot, especially being in a car with a broken air conditioning. I don't actually remember when it broke but I think Josh or someone left it on by accident one day and it overheated. We never fixed it but on days like this I really wished we had.

All four car windows where down and the air was rushing through the car. It made the sweltering sun above slightly more bearable.

"What do you think it's gonna be like in Missouri?" Bryce wondered aloud.

"I honestly have no clue." I responded. "It could be totally in order or it could be a complete shit show."

"What if there's nothing there." Quinton said.

"There has to be. We can't be the only ones to have survived." Griffin said and I nodded.

I leaned on the window ledge and let the wind blow my hair in different directions. I was just about to close my eyes when I noticed something in the wing mirror. It was Noah blinking his car lights at us.

"Griffin." I said and he hummed in response. "Noah's asking you to pull over." He frowned but did so anyway.

We pulled over to the side of the road and the familiar red truck pulled up beside us. The windows where already rolled down so we could freely speak to each other between cars.

"What is it?" Griffin asked.

"Did you see the cabin back there?" Noah said. I frowned and stared into the woods beside us.

"No..." Griffin said. "Why's it important? It's just another abandoned cabin in the woods."

"That's the thing. There was light coming from the windows." Noah said and we all fell silent.

"So there's people there?" I asked.

"Must be." He replied bluntly looking back out his other window into the woods. "It's a little further back, there's a track into the forest and then it's just sitting there."

"Should we check it out?" Bryce asked. "Or do you think they're not friendly."

"Maybe they know things and could tell us about Missouri." Quinton said.

"Don't you think it's a little weird that they're living so close to the safe zone?" Blake frowned.

"It is but I agree with Quinton, they might know something useful." Griffin said. "I think we should go."

We all nodded and decided to leave the cars and walk to the cabin because it would be too hard to turn the cars round in such an enclosed area if something were to go wrong. We also decided to take weapons because you never really know.
