Quiton's P.O.V
You never know how much of a difference it makes without someone until they're gone.
Until you can't see their face, or hear their laugh. It feels like there's a giant hole, stabbed right through your heart. One that can't be repaired.
You don't realise how much you needed them as a part of your life. It feels so unfair for them to be ripped straight from your hands. Gone in the blink of an eye.
Many tears have been shed over the loss of Anthony, most from Jaden and Josh. Having only just been fully reunited with each other and now they lost Anthony. Except this time is different because they know he's gone. We all know we might not be able to get him back.
Unless we find a cure. Either in Missouri or if we find one ourselves. I had always thought about the possibility of creating one but I never really put that much action into making one because I just don't know how or where to start, but I know I'm going to try harder now.
This only makes it so much more important to get to Missouri. We'll make it there and then go back for Anthony if- no when, we get a cure.
Anthony died saving Jaden but he himself can be saved. I'm going to do everything I can to try and make a cure or at least get close to one.
Someone put their hand on mine and I looked down to see I had clenched my fists on my lap. I then glanced up to see Bryce smiling softly at me. He wordlessly reached out with his other hand and wiped the tears that had fell from my eyes. I hadn't even noticed I was crying.
I smiled lightly back at Bryce and saw the pain in his eyes. He missed Anthony, we all did. I knew that I had to look out for Bryce just as much as I knew he would look out for me because he would hide his pain from me to appear strong. However I knew inside he was just as broken as everyone else over the death of one of his best friends.
I leaned into him and he immediately put his face in my hair and wrapped his arms around me.
We sat like this for a few minutes. Just enjoying each other's warmth. No need for words, just cuddling on the floor in the corner of an old hospital ward in post-apocalyptic Arizona.
Kio's better, that's what Griffin said. The meds Josh, Jaden and Anthony got from the storage room turned out to not work but Griffin used something else and it worked and he said Kio should wake up soon.
The trip to the storage room Jaden, Josh and Anthony had made had been utterly pointless. Anthony should still be alive.
Suddenly Kio mumbled something and Griffin leapt up from where he was sitting and over to the hospital bed.
"I think he's waking up." He said. Bryce and I pulled away from each other and walked over to the hospital bed with everyone else.
"Kio?" Griffin said. Kio's eyelids twitched and then his eyes slowly blinked open.
"Griffin?" He mumbled, slightly dazed. "What happened?"
"Hey baby." Griffin smiled. "You collapsed because you were sick. You've been out for a day and a half." Griffin explained, holding Kio's hand. Kio frowned as he took in the information.
"Oh." He mumbled bluntly.
"You need to take better care of yourself." Griffin said and Kio nodded.
"Sorry." He said.
"No it's okay you don't need to be sorry." Griffin dismissed him quickly. Kio sat up a bit and Griffin immediately helped him sit up.
He looked at us and we all smiled back at him, happy to see he was feeling better. He looked at all our faces and then frowned.
