Bryce's P.O.V
I woke up to someone shaking me and two unfamiliar voices whispering to each other. I had to think for a moment to recollect my thoughts and figure out where I was before I remembered. I sat up quickly and got in a defensive position looking at the two figures in the dark.
"Woah woah were not here to hurt you!" The boy from yesterday whispered, holding his hands up. I relaxed slightly but not completely.
"What do you want then?" I asked. I wasn't aware of the time but I knew it must have been early morning because there was barley any light filtering in from the uncovered window. I didn't trust these people one bit but one night should have been fine.
"We need to wake the rest of you're friends up and then we can explain." The boy, Jacob if I can remember correctly, said. My eyes were starting to adjust to the dark and I could properly see their faces now.
I hesitated before complying, turning to Quinton who was closest and lightly shaking him. He woke up in a confused state and I waved off his questions before turning to the next person.
Soon enough all of us were awake and confused, scattered across the collective lumpy mattresses.
"Explain." Griffin said to the two people in front of us. Freya, the younger girl, had been mostly silent only whispering a few words to her brother. She looked no older than 16 and her brother Jacob looked like he was in his early 20s.
"We have to talk quietly and fast because we don't want to wake up our father or uncle Mathew." Jacob said. "We're here to help you and I know how hard it is to trust people in this world but please trust us even if it's only a little."
"Why would we need to do that?" I asked.
"Because you want to get into Missouri and you won't get through the gates with him." Freya spoke up for the first time and pointed at Blake. I glanced at him and then a sudden realisation hit me.
"What's wrong with Blake?" Griffin sad playing dumb. I knew he'd made the same realisation as me.
Jacob sighed and continued. "My father overheard your whole conversation but luckily enough Freya overheard him discussing his plans with uncle Mathew." He said.
"And what would those plans be?" Noah asked.
"People like my family would do anything to get further into the safe zone and have free roam of the states. So from what Freya told me and what I guessed myself, he most likely was going to take your friend and shoot the rest of you so you couldn't stop him." As Jacob explained everything I saw how Noah instinctively pulled Blake closer.
"Are you really immune?" Jacob asked and Blake nodded slowly after realising their really wasn't any point in denying it anymore. "Never thought that was possible..."
"Why are you helping us then?" Griffin asked trying to stay on point.
"Because our father isn't a good man, he's done may bad things in his lifetime and he doesn't deserve the privilege." Freya said sternly. She seemed to be gaining confidence and clearly had a strong rebellious side.
"We still can't trust you completely but thank you for telling us that, we'll leave now." Griffin said.
"You can't." Jacob said quickly. "Well you can but you won't get past the wall."
"Why?"
"Because if he has a bite mark then the scanners will pick it up and they'll kill him, no matter how much you try and tell them he's immune. The only people that will listen are the control tower." Jacob explained. I had no idea who or what the control tower was but I felt I could trust his words.
