The next day, I left the hospital at the crack of dawn, my hood concealing my face. I had just made it to the front gates when I heard a voice behind me. "Going somewhere?"
I recognised that voice immediately. 'Dammit,' I thought as I slowly turned around to face my very cross godmother.
"You are in no shape to be out of bed," she continued as she started walking towards me. Her expression softened. "Are you sure you want to witness this?" I wasn't surprised she knew.
I looked at her calmly. "This is something I have to do".
"Alright, I'll let you go, on one condition". I held my breath as I waited for her to continue. "Tell me where it's happening".
                              My eyes widened. "I can't".
She shook her head. "I'm not going to stop it; I know how important this fight is. I just need to know where you're going".
After a moment of hesitation, I nodded. "The old Uchiha hideout".
Once she was satisfied enough, she walked away. Letting out the breath I was holding, I continued on my way once more. I would have teleported there, but I still wasn't recovered enough.
I finally arrived to find it eerily quiet. Judging by the lack of debris, I guessed that Sasuke hadn't yet arrived. Deducing that Itachi would be in the main hall, I cautiously started making my way over there. I had barely taken a step inside the room when Itachi said, "You shouldn't be here".
I turned to see Itachi sitting on the throne with his eyes closed. 'He must have sensed me'. "And yet, here I am," I said, walking towards him. I sat down on the small table next to the throne. "I came to see if I could talk you out of this".
He gave me a pointed look. "(Y/N), we talked about this".
"And I'm not giving up! I refuse to believe that this is the end! I refuse to believe that you might not be walking away from this!"
Before I could finish venting, Itachi pulled me close and planted his lips on mine. When we pulled away, he held my hand, intertwined our fingers, and said, "I love you so much, and that will never change. No matter what happens, my love for you will remain".
I smiled softly at him. "That's my line".
We pulled in close again when we sensed Sasuke's chakra. We both leaned back and faced the spot where Sasuke would be entering. "How much can you see with those Sharingan of yours?" he asked once Sasuke had arrived.
Sasuke glared at his older brother with a burning hatred. Suddenly, his gaze flicked to me. "(Y/N), you're alive".
I smiled softly at him. "Yeah. Sorry I haven't contacted you; I haven't really had a moment alone since returning to the village".
Without a word, Sasuke's gaze switched back to Itachi as he hardened his glare. "How much can I see with these? What I'm seeing right now, Itachi, is you dead at my feet".
Before replying to his hateful younger brother, Itachi turned to me. "You should probably stand to the side".
"Are you sure about this?" I whispered, letting a single tear fall.
He smiled softly at me. "Do you remember what I said the night I first told you I loved you?"
I closed my eyes and smiled at the memory. "You said you would never leave me, not even in death".
He brought our intertwined fingers to his lips and placed a soft kiss on the back of my hand. "And I meant it".
After a moment of hesitation, I nodded and walked to the side where Zetsu was. Once I was safe, Itachi turned back to Sasuke.
