Chapter 22: 'A surprise?'

Loved.

Lance couldn't shake that word out of his head. He had been thinking about it ever since Keith said it. Lance thought that love was a strong word, just as hate was. When Keith said he hated Lance, Lance didn't think that much of it. Sure, he was hurt by it, but he knew Keith didn't mean it. Keith only said it in the heat of the moment. To be honest, if Keith really did hate him Lance wouldn't be surprised. Keith has many reasons to hate Lance, yet he doesn't. Lance couldn't stop thinking about if Keith just said the word 'loved' in the heat of the moment like when he said hate. He didn't even know how he made Keith feel loved. What did Lance do to make Keith feel that way?

'Loved' and 'love' had similar meanings, but were used in different contexts. Keith had said before that he had never been in love before. Lance wondered if he knew what he was talking about. It's not like Keith said he loved Lance, but it still meant a lot to Lance. Saying someone makes you feel loved is like saying someone makes you feel wanted, cared for, and treasured. Lance wanted, cared for and treasured Keith. So did he really make Keith feel loved? He tried really hard when it came to Keith. Every person in Lance's life had special meaning to him, but Keith was different. He put more effort into his relationship with Keith then he did with anyone else. That's how much Keith meant to Lance.

Lance had been in love before, it was a bad memory that he tried not to dig up often. Some parts of it were nice, others were like a nightmare. He hadn't been in love since his first love. Lance just didn't ever find the right girl, and he didn't want to either. Since the first ended so bad Lance didn't want to date till he was out of highschool. Lance couldn't help but think, what if Keith was different? What if Keith was the right one for Lance? Lance wanted to think that Keith was the one, but he was still so scared. He was scared to love, scared to come out.

Even if he was scared, he was still going to do what he could to make Keith feel loved. Lance was willing to give his all to make Keith happy. He wanted to continue giving Keith that feeling for as long as he could.

Right now, Lance sat in his car. He was in Keith's driveway waiting for Keith to come out. Lance had a surprise for Keith, but he didn't know that yet. The two of them spent a lot of time with each other throughout the week. They even sat with each other at lunch. It seemed like they were just getting closer and closer, as if they weren't close before. Lance kind of liked how close he was getting to Keith. Him and Keith had deeper conversations and were a lot more comfortable with each other. Of course, they're friends got suspicious of it. They denied any accusation thrown at them, even so, their friends still didn't believe them.

Lance watched as Keith walked out of his front door. He couldn't help but smile as he watched Keith skip to his car. Keith opened the door and jumped in the car. He sat his backpack on the floor between his legs. Lance looked Keith up and down. His hair was tied back and he wore a gray shirt with the sleeves cut off. Keith had on black joggers, socks and shoes. He looked so good to Lance.

"You look nice," Lance mumbled as he took his pickup out of park.

Keith blushed a little and looked away from Lance out of embarrassment. "Thank you," he said in a whisper. Lance loved to shower Keith with compliments every chance he got. He just loves seeing how flustered Keith got.

"My sister is spending the night at a friend's, Luis is at some party and Marco is with his girlfriend, so we have the house to ourselves tonight," Lance said softly, watching Keith from the corner of his eye.

Keith snickered. "Yeah? Getting any ideas?" Keith asked with a smirk. He looked out the windshield at the stars filling the sky. It was around seven in the evening. The sun started to set around this time. Keith liked to watch the colors of the sky fade into purples and oranges as the stars slowly came into view. It was such a beautiful sight.
