Two weeks later...
Lance had a week till Christmas break, meaning Christmas was right around the corner. He already had all of the gifts for his family and friends, so he wasn't worried about that. What Lance was worried about was seeing his parents for the first time in a year. Lance hadn't told his family about him and Keith yet, so he was nervous to say the least. He knew he wanted to spend the holidays with Keith, but that meant he would have to tell his family. It's not that he didn't want to tell his family about Keith and his sexuality, he was just nervous. Lance had every reason to be nervous too. Coming out to your loved ones was never an easy conversation. Lance knew he had nothing to worry about when it came to his siblings, but he didn't know about his parents. He was sure he parents weren't homophobic or anything, but having a child who likes the same sex can still come as a surprise. Lance just hoped his family would accept him and learn to love Keith as one of their own.
Right now, Lance was in the kitchen with Veronica cooking dinner. Luis had gotten home a few minutes ago, meaning that Marco was going to be home soon. Lance wanted to tell them all at once, hoping that would make it easier. "How long are mama and papa staying?" Lance asked quietly as he continued to peel the skin off a potato.
"Till new years," Luis answered, sitting at the island looking down at his phone. "They'll get here on the twenty-second I think."
Lance nodded, bitting his lip. His whole body was bubbling with nerves that he couldn't help. Lance just wished he could calm down a little, he hated feeling like this. He tried to keep his hands steady, but he was shaking from how anxious he was. Lance paused his movements for a second and took a deep breath. He knew he was overreacting, but he couldn't help the fact that he felt like this. As much as he told himself everything we going to be okay, his body wasn't listening to him. Lance went to go back to peeling the potato, sliding the knife underneath the thin layer of skin. His hands became too shaky and his finger slipped, slicing his thumb open.
"Damnit!" Lance shouted, dropped the knife and vegetable on the counter. He brought his hand up to look at the cut, blood already dripping down his hand. Lance cursed himself, wishing he wasn't so fucking clumsy.
"Okay, okay, wash it off. I'll go get a bandaid," Veronica said as she wiped her hands off on a towel. She walked off into the direction of the bathroom in search for a bandaid. While she was gone Lance had listened to her and washed the blood off under the kitchen sink. He winced at the feeling at the freezing cold water seeping through his new wound. When Veronica returned she had a butterfly bandage in her hand, figuring Lance had cut it deep enough to need one. "Let me see."
Lance pulled some paper towel to dry off his hand and turned to his sister. She peeled open the band-aid, crumbling up the paper before temporarily setting it on the counter. Veronica brought Lance's hand closer to her, making sure to set the band-aid in the right place.
"Why is it that Lance is hurt everytime I come home?" Marco asked as he walked into the kitchen, taking off his coat. He laid his coat over one of the dinner table chairs.
Lance tensed up the second he heard his older brothers voice. He looked down at the beige colored band-aid that now covered his cut. "Because our little brother is a klutz," Veronica answered with a giggle. She threw the wrapper away before returning to the boiling noodles on the stove.
"So...I was thinking for Christmas... I would spend half of it here and half of it at Keith's," Lance suggested quietly. He didn't dare look up at siblings, only returning to the cutting board. His heart began to beat out of chest, so loud he could hear it. Lance's breathing quickened with anxiety, his hands becoming shaky again. He didn't even say the important part yet and he was already panicking. Lance knew it was his overthinking coming to play, but he couldn't fight the nerves off. It was like his whole body was just expecting the worst. The more he told himself it was going to be perfectly fine the more his nerves disagreed with him. Lance just wanted to be calm for five minutes to say what he needed to say. There was no reason for him to be acting so fearful when he knew there wasn't a single thing to fear.
