Chapter 4: The Story
Three days had passed since the hunt, and the memory. Andromeda had tried not to think about the memory of 'The Lord', who she knew was someone sacred—someone who would save the wolves around from an evil force. "Thanks, Diana." Andromeda had just come out of a session with her concillor, Diana, who had talked to her about her mother's "overprotectiveness." She was relieved to notice she was feeling better, and, for good measure, she killed a rabbit just in time, before Queen Cora arrived back at Findrut. Andromeda dreaded her return. She went inside the cave of the storyteller, Aisha. There were exactly nine pups that were born early, before spring—their mothers had given birth much to early, and all of them were struggling to survive. Aisha just entertained them while their parents looked for food to feed them with: Andromeda did feel like listening to one of Aisha's stories. "It had been a long and perilous journey," she was saying. "The male and female had travelled for days, each in their own confined and cramped space, each unsure if they would ever see each other again. Edging cautiously out into the blinding sunlight, they peered around at their new and unfamiliar surroundings. Relief flooded each of their bodies as they finally set eyes on each other again, but with the relief came fear, trepidation and uncertainty. "You see, these three two had been hunted down by a pack of wolves—well, one had been kidnapped—little did they know that the pack, that group, of wolves were not hunting them down, but guarding their own territory. The Leader of the pack of wolves was a female wolf, who was cruel and a horrible wolf. She was the Fake-One. Their enemies, the good wolves, had a good leader. She was someone every wolf admired: but, she was also The Lord." Andromeda heard the adults in the room gasp. She herself restrained gasping. The Lord was mythical wolf that was supposed to arrive in the future when everyone needed to be saved, but Andromeda knew that this "lord" would not be coming anytime soon. She let Aisha continue. "So please watch out." Andromeda bolted. Whatwas it with all of the rumours of The Lord? She knew very well that some things were not real—just myths, made up to entertain wolves. How did she know The Lord wasn't one of those? Andromeda sighed. She had noticed how much she had been sighing lately. How could she ever put her poor mind at rest, knowing that the tension between The Lord, The Fake-One, and the Lost One was at its heighest? How would she ever relax? She sat down, and for some time, she thought of all that had happened.
