Chapter 32: Defend
Andromeda bent low to the ground, watching Queen Cora's Guards sniff around. She knew she wasn't ready for the final battle yet, but she had to defend Skystar with all her might: a group of Findrut guards, loyal to Queen Cora, had found the location of the rebellion. Andromeda knew this couldn't hold.
Behind her, Hunter, Diamond, Orion, Sapphire, Midnight and Borealis stood, looking fierce. Together, they made their way through the grasses, making sure not to make any noises or step on ants.
"They have to be somewhere here," Andromeda heard one of the guards hiss anxiously, "Queen Cora will kill us if she realizes we haven't brought back or killed or injured any of the rebellion. She needs to make sure her power is without question, and the rebellion is questioning her power."
It was then another guard spotted Andromeda. She could've sworn that his eyes popped out of his sockets. "AHH!" He yelled, alerting all the others.
So, the guards had spotted them. Well, two had. Andromeda knew it would be only a matter of time before they all did, and there was no point waiting. Guards in Queen Cora's army followed Queen Cora, and nobody else, even if Andromeda did manage to convince them she was still on the queen's side and was her favourite daughter. Maybe they'd have believed Crescent, but still, they only followed Queen Coraline. Really, it was a pity.
"CHARGE!" Andromeda finally yelled, shaking herself out of her thoughts and running straight at the guard who had spotted her. The guard's eyes flew open, his face terrified, and he tried to fight back, but the element of surprise had won—again.
The guard was dead within a matter of seconds. Andromeda looked around, and spotted Hunter fighting a pale white female, Sapphire fighting a grey male, Orion fighting two wolves at once, but, she didn't spot anyone fighting the leader of patrol, a shady male with sharp amber eyes, almost yellow, and a dark sense to him. Maybe, just maybe, he wasn't here... but that couldn't be true. She had just seen him with the guards, looking dangerous.
Then she spotted him. He was in the forest, seeking cover within the trees. He watched his army fight and loose, but made no move to help them. Andromeda knew exactly why. He was overconfident. He believed that even if he had no army, he could defeat the Skystar Rebellion. Then, if he did, and he told Queen Cora, she would respect him. He wanted to be made the leader of all armies.
Andromeda couldn't let that happen. Now that this patrol knew the location of Skystar, she would have to kill them all. She needed to prepare Midnight to see the future, and Hunter's pups to fight. They were nearing eight months, and eighth months, to Andromeda, (and Hunter, depending), meant they would be decent fighters. And, they'd be helpful.
She crept around the leader, clawing at him viciously from the side, and it was then he turned around and noticed she'd seen him and found away to attack him without his knowledge. It took him just a second to process this, and he retaliated.
His claw scratched Andromeda's underside, and she mentally yowled. It was painful, but not so painful she'd be rolling on the ground, begging for mercy. Andromeda lashed her tail and used her own right claw to swipe at his face, drawing blood, and her left paw went to his feet, causing him to trip and fall, face-flat, his tail stuck in the air. What an idiot, Andromeda thought, cracking a slight smile. I didn't overreact when he injured me.
"You can't hide for much longer," the guard said. "Queen Cora's thirst for blood is becoming stronger by the day. Follow my advice, not fake, and attack in the next month. It's the only way for you to win." Seeing Andromeda's confused face, the guard continued. "She has a secret weapon."
And then, without another word, he coughed, falling into the inky darkness of death.
