Chapter 43: Andromeda's Fight

There was a long silence after Ina finished reciting the prophecy, until Saeva bared her teeth and lunged at the old wolf, throwing her to the ground before Andromeda could do anything. However, she got up as soon as she had attacked, glorying Ina's obvious pain. Andromeda closed her eyes.
"That's enough," said Andromeda suddenly, opening her eyes. Both Saeva, who was half-covered in shadows, her newly stated black coat evident, and Ina, her body resting on the floor, stared, their gazes holding very different feelings.
Andromeda looked Saeva in the eyes. She did not look away, even as her eyes began to water. Her gaze became more menacing as time passed, and she found herself taking three furious paces towards the wolf that long ago, she had thought was her mother. Then, finally, after painful waiting, Andromeda snarled.
She hadn't expected it to go down this way, as she clawed Saeva viciously across the face, spilling blood, but she knew she couldn't just sit around all day. Just as she was about to trip the villain, Saeva's mouth found its way to Andromeda's neck and it bit, trying to suffocate her, to kill her.
Andromeda used another claw to slice Saeva across the chest, making her enemy's jaw collide with the ground as she fell. Another stream of blood trickled out the open would slowly and teasingly.
Saeva stood. "Oh," she smiled. "Decided to challenge me, now? It has been far too long, after all—but you will loose this fight. Like mother like daughter, after all, isn't that it? And, if I am remembering correctly, Princess Andromeda, your mother died when she dared challenge me, didn't she."
Fierce rage bubbled up in Andromeda's stomach. She lunged at Saeva again, but was stopped.
"It's true." Saeva was speaking. "I have killed anyone to defy me, from pup to elder mercilessly, my bloodlust never ending. I have gloried in the pain of other wolves, in their screaming, begging for mercy, begging for me to just kill them already. I have made all of their deaths slow and painful, as they cried, screamed, as I tortured them with no shame—what was there to be shameful for? So, after all this, why should you be any different?"
Andromeda paused. It was true, Saeva had done everything in her power to make herself hated, to make herself vile, cruel, as her name spoke, to make herself feared, but could she be redeemed? No, not anymore... Andromeda looked up, her gaze questioning, but she knew it was the end when she realized that her back was against the wall, and Saeva's claw was ready to strike.
