Chapter 27: The Unexpected
Looking at Carol—Crescent—from where she was in the Healing Den, run by Abalone, of course, who had come with them in the Skystar Rebellion, Andromeda couldn't help but feel worried for her sister. Crescent had come all the way from Findrut with Diana and Serena, and Hunter had asked if they could stay, which Andromeda agreed to, after some thought. However, the moment she settled in, she had been experiencing "random" pains all over her body.
As soon as Serena (who was always the first to notice stuff) realized that Crescent had been having quite severe pains, she, (Serena), had reported to Andromeda instantly. Andromeda was puzzled, but sent Crescent to Abalone, who was surprised that someone had finally gotten injured, without much thought. After all, it wasn't very uncommon to experience any pains.
But the pains had been going on for almost three days, nonstop, and it had been getting worse. Yesterday, Andromeda had visited, only to see Crescent crying and Abalone trying desperately to comfort her. Hunter had been there, too, his eyes wide and a panicked expression on his face. He'd have to get used to crying, now that he had pups. Andromeda smiled briefly at the thought of the three of them, cuddled up in Ruby's den, warm and safe and ready to explore, soon.
Although, Ruby had told Andromeda that she had taken them out once, for the shortest amount of time, with Hunter, but they had found Crescent, Diana, and Serena just a few minutes after they had exited the den, and Ruby, who had said she was quite disappointed, despite the new arrivals, had to take the three pups back to the den, and wait one more week, until they were ready, big and strong enough, to go outside and meet everyone.
Andromeda looked at Crescent, who closing her eyes, her body tense and rigid, pain clustered on every inch of her face. The fur on her white-grey coat was bristled, in pain, fear, or something Andromeda didn't know of, and her claws were tearing at the ground. Abalone looked up, worried, stared at Andromeda, and looked back down at Crescent, who had rolled over so she was facing Andromeda.
"Andromeda," she gasped, opening her eyes and then closing them, and then opening them again, "I know what's going on. I can sense it, and Abalone confirmed it this morning."
"What is it?" Andromeda asked, worried evident.
Crescent looked at Abalone, who gave her an encouraging look, and then back at Andromeda, her eyes filling with panic, grief, helplessness nervousness, and the tiniest spark of excitement—but there wasn't much of it, so, Andromeda didn't start feeling giddy.
"I'm—" she gasped, breathing in more air. "I'm expecting offspring."Dun dun dun! Carol—I'm sorry—Crescent—is pregnant? Well that's a plot twist. So now, Andromeda's the only royal sibling who doesn't have a mate or pups. And that's what today's author's note is about: do you guys want Andromeda to stay independent and single, or do you want her to find a mate and raise pups? Because I know some of you want her to keep that independent female spirit, but some of you want her to find love and raise a family.
