Chapter 10: A Sister's Warning
Andromeda insisted she was fine whenever her father asked. She ignored the worried looks Hunter sent her way and how Carol returned back to her normal state, but now talking to Queen Cora whenever she got the chance, somewhat angrily. Hunter had returned to his normal self after a talk he had with their father, King Kai, which Andromeda hadn't been part of. That day, Andromeda saw the three gemstone sisters, Ruby, Hunter's teacher, Diamond, and Emerald, giving Hunter looks she didn't like. She had ignored it at first, pretending they just admired him because he was a prince, and Ruby wanted to check on his health, but their looks had become more dreamy than anything else. Andromeda, still, had not made any move to confront them or Hunter about what all of their strange, dreamy looks were about. She had just watched, suspicious, and she she had observed whatever they talked about, did, and when they looked at Hunter. It wasn't that hard to pick up the truth. It had come as a great shock to her. Her little brother! Her wee little brother! Why Hunter? Then it had become annoyance, because they were surely taking advantage of his gullible nature. Then, it had come a fierce protectiveness. She would not stand for these three females, the gemstone sisters, to treat Hunter like a toy. He needed a good mate for himself, someone who really cared about him. He needed to know the personality of his mate, every bit of her. Maybe he knew Ruby, but Ruby was his teacher! And Hunter was not like Andromeda—he could be tricked. He was too trusting. Ruby couldn't be trusted. Not with Hunter. Andromeda marched towards the three sisters, who were talking amongst themselves in hushed whispers. When they saw Andromeda coming, they shut up, and stared at her with respect, loyalty, and... fear? Well, sure. They should be scared. "It's about Hunter," she said in a sharp voice. Ruby, Emerald, and Diamond whisked around so they were facing her. "What do you think of him? I mean, personality wise." Emerald didn't hesitate to answer. "Well, he's quite nice, and a good hunter, duh, and I think that—" "Don't mind her," Diamond said with a smile, although she sent a glare at her sister. "She's overexcitable. Oh, and Hunter? He's polite and kind, maybe loyal, and very trustworthy, patient, and friendly, I think. Why?" She asked casually, but Andromeda could tell she was very curious. "Wait," she said. "What do you think, Ruby?" Ruby hesitated, before she answered. "I've known him long enough to know he's patient, loyal, kind, and friendly. He's a good learner, too, and he cares about others. Although—" she paused, looking at Andromeda nervously— "he can be slightly gullible." She said the last bit in a hushed whisper. Andromeda inwardly growled. That did it. That had to mean Ruby, at least, was taking advantage of him. She didn't know about the other two, but she was sure they were just being smart about hiding what they were doing. Yes, that was it. "Well, that's great, but don't become his mate, which I'm sure you won't, of course, because I'll have a chat with you." The three of them nodded, looking shocked. Andromeda sensed sadness radiating from them, and looming in their eyes, threatening to blind them. That didn't matter. Her job was done. If one of them did become his mate, she'd rip their heads off and burn their bodies. She was sure they knew that, because she detected fear, too. Finally. THE JOB WAS DONE.
