Chapter 29: The Travelers
She stepped onto the rock, careful not to let her paw touch the bubbling waters. It was hard to make sure that they were going the right way, and she knew she could never trust him completely—he was not her mate. But, she knew he would not do anything to her. He was too scared, too in awe. "We are going the right way, are we not?" she asked, looking up into the inky blackness of the late night. He turned his head to look at her. "Yes, we are," he replied. "I have lived around here since I was a child. I know all the routes, everything. I am the expert." She nodded. The trees seemed to glow, ranging from short to tall, outlining against the full moon. She smiled half-heartedly. "Yes, after a while," said she dryly, "which means, I must spend quite a bit convincing them before they finally agree to believe me." "Of course!" he said. "Do not expect something that is not to be expected." "Then, let us continue." "You believe in Ina, do you not?" "Oh, yes. Yes I do. But I do not believe in her, I know that she exists." "How might one know?" "That is a matter between myself and a friend." "Am I not a friend? Or perhaps, a travelling buddy, a guide." "You are a mix of all. But, notice I said a friend, not my friend. There is a subtle difference." "Of course, I just didn't notice." They walked in silence for a while, until they came to a cliff. "There is a rumour there is a prophecy, do you know?" He stated. "Yes, I do," she replied. "I believe, if you will understand, that the moon is itching to sing it. Ina is sending messages. Literally, the prophecy is in the air."
