Chapter 48: The Misfit

"This is the queen's room," Queen Cora said. "The king will be here too, but there is no king. That door connects with the room where the other royals sleep in."
Andromeda gaped when she entered. The First Class Royal's room was a large cave with a small window, moss beds, and flowering plants hanging from the air. Daffodils, roses, and bramble bushes sprouted in the cave's corners, and trees of birch and willow decorated the area. The door connecting to the Second and Third Class Royal's dens was decorated with silver leaves and lillies.
"It's beautiful," Andromeda said. Her smile lit up her face. "Will I be here, alone?" She turned to her mother, who was smiling at all the decorations.
"No," Queen Cora said. "Since you have no mate and pups, Hunter and his three pups will stay here, too. Hunter will be known as "Sir Hunter", and Robin and Horizon will be princes. Hope will be a princess."
"But will I need an heir?" Andromeda tried to not sound anxious, but the emotion crept into her voice anyway. Queen Cora noticed, and smiled gently.
"You don't have to give birth to pups," she said, drawing in a relieved breath from Andromeda, "but you will need an heir. Preferably a female, as it has always been—Hope would be a good choice, if she agrees. However, she may have her own female pup in the near future you can choose instead of her. I daresay she craves a peaceful life."
"Of course," Andromeda nodded. "How is Amandi, though? Has he settled in nicely? It must be hard, warming up to someone who your mother hated."
Queen Cora smiled. "Yes, he's well," she said. "He is doing well, just a bit unsure of his place."
A worried look spread across Andromeda's face. She had not known Saeva's son long, but she could tell that he could be trusted—he had saved her from his own mother, proving his loyalties. And he already had a place in heart heart, as an adopted brother, as a friend, like Orion. Nothing like Saeva.
"Anything we can do to help?" Andromeda asked. "I know what if feels like to be a misfit."
Queen Cora shifted her stance a little bit, so her body was tilted towards Andromeda. "Do you?" she asked. "It may be a coincidence, but so have I."
Andromeda laughed, feeling closer to her mother than she ever had before. "I think that all princesses feel out of place for a stage in their lives," she said. "I know I did, for a while, actually. Diana helped me overcome it all, though."
"I think Amandi could do with a friend," said Queen Cora. "Maybe you can introduce him to someone who helped you lead the rebellion—Orion, for instance—at your coronation. He's just unsure of why anyone would trust him, as his mother was Saeva, a blood-hungry and cruel villain."
"I'll do that," Andromeda said. Then she stepped forward, to enjoy the comfort of her new home.
