In the light of the recent turn of events, it was safe to assume that the girls had won back their credibility. Honestly, a relief. But something about the events of the day before wasn't adding up.
Sitting at their usual table, the girls sat, reading from the picture on Emily's tablet.
I killed Alison. I lost my temper because she knew too much. But there's only so much you can bury. It won't be that easy, but p̶a̶i̶n̶ I Know how to get rid of the pain. I can't h̶i̶d̶e̶ run from the law. Come and find me.
- Ian
Aria frowned, "Is this a suicide note or a confession?"
"It's both", Spencer replied before looking towards Emily, "Emily, How do you have this?"
"I sent it to her", Hanna intrjected, "I took a picture with my phone before we called the cops."
"It's weird", Emily shook her head, "Why would Ian kill himself just as he was about to skip town with Melissa?"
"Maybe he realized he was gonna get caught. He couldn't hide forever, even with Melissa and Wren's help. He was probably desperate", Avery snapped. She'd been acting weird; fidgety, irascible, and unsually quiet. This was the first time she had spoken up, the whole day. She gulped, "Look, who cares why Ian did it? The important thing is, Ali's killer is dead and we're no longer people of interest."
"Why am I not feeling relieved right now?", Emily quipped.
"Oh, Em, come on", Aria rolled her eyes, "For months, we've been about as welcome in this town as a cold sore, and plus, now people know that we've been telling the truth."
"And Ian is out of our lives for good", Spencer sighed.
"Yeah, but A isn't", Hanna scoffed, as Spencer countered, "Can we please just slay one dragon at a time? The guy was scum, and now he's dead scum."
"You know what I want?", Hanna butted, "I want to enjoy my life again...before A finds another way to ruin it."
The girls got up from their places when the bell rang, but Avery remained seated, looking blankly at her palms.
"Are you coming?", Spencer asked, turning to look at the Parker girl."
"No, you guys go ahead."
"Aves, what is it?", Aria enquired, taking a seat beside Avery. Before Avery could reply, Emily cut in , "A has to be involved in this somehow. That's making you nervous, isn't it?"
Avery muttered a 'no', as Spencer remarked, "Yeah, but not as much as Ian did."

Avery was curled up in the middle of her bed, her back towards the door. She turned to the other side when she heard the door unlatch. It could have very well been A, but Avery didn't care at that point.
