Avery recalled the day she almost cried, moved by Jenna's vulnerability and her hollow confessions. Ugh, what a phoney. To think that they all fell right into Jenna's trap? Jenna was tapping away, navigating her way through the loose crowd. Not once did her act slip up.
"God, what a performance", Hanna sneered, as she stared at Jenna across the courtyard. Took the words right out of Avery's mouth.
"Can you imagine faking it for so long?", Emily added.
"What do you think she's planning?", Avery mused, as she glared at Jenna.
"That's what you have to find out", Spencer quipped, looking at Avery, "She trusts you."
"Or at least she wants you to think that she does", Aria added.
"Great", Avery grumbled, "That's awesome."
"Hey, I'll trade you Mona for Jenna", Hanna rolled her eyes.
"I think I felt safer when Mona wasn't talking", Aria sighed.
"There she goes", Emily remarked, her eyes fixed on the Marshall girl, who 'accidentally' bumped into someone.
"We should push a table in front of her and see what happens", Hanna suggested.
"God, Hanna, you have all the subtlety of a hand grenade", Spencer commented.
Hanna smiled, pleased with herself at the supposed compliment Spencer gave her, "Thank you."
"Has your mom said anything to you about taking Garrett's case?", Aria enquired.
"Not yet", Spencer shook her head, "But Melissa's coming home tomorrow, so she'll probably tell both of us at the same time. 'Cause that's how it works in my family. We keep the one-on-ones to a minimum."
"God, I don't know how to break it to Jason", Avery whined.
Their attention was diverted towards the entrance of the courtyard, when they heard a commotion. A shabbily dressed Lucas stood there, cornered by the Headmaster, who was as glaring at him.
"You're not helping yourself, Mr. Gottesman", the headmaster bellowed, "This all goes on your permanent record!"
The girls exchanged glances. Lucas is becoming fishier minute by minute.

"I thought you said you wanted out this morning. What made you change your mind about playing with me?", Jenna enquired, looping her arms through Avery's.
Avery shrugged nonchalantly, "Um, I guess I was just intimidated by the whole idea of playing in front of an audience."
"Hmm. Stage fright?"
"Yeah"
"You dance, right?"
Geez, almost got caught in the lie. Knowing that Jenna could actually see what she was doing, was an alien feeling, and it made the usually aloof Avery a lot more conscious.
