Preliminary tests start this Wednesday and it's currently Monday, the worst day of the week besides Sunday since you know? When Sunday comes it means Monday would also return which is a double nightmare for us students. The lamp beside me glowed as I organized my pen, highlighters, and a whole sheet of paper to write my review notes.
I wanted to achieve high marks for my test and get grades that would let me be in the top ten.
I was busy writing notes and memorizing that I didn't hear my sister calling me. I was still stuck on highlighting important information that I almost fly from my seat when a hand tapped my shoulder.
"Jerimie! What the hell?! You scared me!" I glowered at her with my hands on my chest.
"Your friends are here!"
I shooed her out making her frown in annoyance and slamming the door. I swear teenagers have the mood of a spinning wheel, it never really stays in one place. I soon headed downstairs and found my friends grinning at me as I led them in which made me roll my eyes at them. I also notice that he's here, his smile blinding my mother's eye as she welcomed him enthusiastically.
I throw the urge to ask him the reason he's here and decided to get them upstairs and lead them inside my room.
My room is wide enough to accommodate all of us. The walls are painted in peach color as two single-sized beds lay with a shade of lavender sheets and white pillows played neatly. On the right side, you can see a huge white drawer filled with our clothes and an oval mirror filled with pictures from several memories of my life. To the left side, you can see a study table filled with nothing but school-related things and a drawer underneath filled with school supplies that we might need. Atop our bed was a half-crescent moon-shaped window.
We lay down on the gray carpet while they placed their bags and took out their notes. I got up and take mine before managing to get down, then, we start.
It didn't take long for us to finish, of course, our so-called group study which didn't even manage to fill the one-hour schedule of reviewing.
I mean you have your friends- people you can talk with nonstop in your house and you're in your room without anyone's hindrance. How can you study for an hour straight without doing any chatting? I don't think that's possible, I mean it's totally impossible to do that.
Besides my friends and I are crazy which sums up every crazy thing that we've done in the past years.
So, you can guess what happened after a thirty-minute reviewing session, we just freaking had a conversation with topics jumping to a new topic every minute. It was like gossip girls meet the nosy neighbors that know every story in every neighborhood.
"I heard Sheila and Marcus broke up" Bool suddenly said which perks our ears.
"They always broke up, I mean it's already the third time, I'm not sure if it's real anymore" Hanie replied which we simultaneously agreed.
I mean she's right, they always state on their Facebook account that they broke up and change their status to single but in just a few weeks, they're already posting pictures of them doing lovey-dovey things.
"Tintin, I heard Ellie wants to court you," Evan said making us look at Tintin with gleaming eyes.
"Hey! I don't like him! I have someone I like already!" She insisted before passing a glance to an ignorant Willmark.
I on the side can only shake my head in secret before looking towards them. They're already cursed foul language to each other as I giggled even more at the sight of them even denouncing their undesirable traits.
"I bet you still use b612 when you're doing a selfie since your camera would break if you use a normal one" Tintin mocked Evan while we burst into laughter.
"Hey! I bet you use retrica to filter your clumpy, sagging massive cheeks and your airport-looking forehead!" Evan retaliates before another round of cursing appeared.
My eyes brimmed in tears after laughing so hard, my stomach even hurts from it as if my menstruation, cramps started I decided to lean down on my bed and watch them fight again like the satisfied audience I am.
"Hey, your forehead looks like an airport too"
I heard someone say as I cradled Bimbi who unknowingly crawled in our room. I look to my right and saw Willmark grinning at me with that pair of teasing eyes.
"How bout you big head?" I counterattacked with my brow lifted making my friend burst into laughter as I evilly grin at his constipated face.
Yeah, I forgot to tell you, his head was as big as his ego and that's not an understatement.
It didn't take long for the night to descend and for them to leave our home, great thing. I told my mom that I would send them back and see them off just in the opening of our streets facing the road. My mother nodded and told me to buy some bagoong on the way, our dinner must be kare-kare but hey, I'm fine with it.
I and Tintin walked behind the rest of our friends while I waited for her to tell me what's bothering her. She has been like that s
"Jamie?"
"Yes?" I almost said enthusiastically before tampering it down.
"Um... I- I uh..." She seems nervous but I saw the flicker of decisive in her eyes.
"Yeah?"
"I wanted to confess to him. Y-you noticed right?" She said with a hesitant one as she looked at me with those gleaming infatuated eyes of hers.
I gulped and nodded my head, my head conjuring up thoughts of the two of them standing together as a couple. I fail to see them as a complementary couple but nonetheless smiled to cheer her up.
"You can totally do it, I mean you're really pretty and great. It'll be his miss if he didn't like you"
"Thanks" she muttered in happiness as a grin etched on her face.
Oh boy, I just hope this sporty player guy won't hurt her, or else... I'll really punch that big head of his.
Notes:
• B612 is a photography app specially designed for selfies that lets you apply dozens of filters to your photos. We used this filter app when we were in early high school, it's very old school for us.
• Retrica is a photo app that allows you to apply different filters to your photos, just like Instagram does.
• Airport, it is said to describe big foreheads because it resembles the wide expanse of space that airports have. We also used to tease my friend airport head.
• Bagoong is a Philippine condiment partially or completely made of either fermented fish or krill or shrimp paste with salt.
• Kare kare is a stew with oxtail, ox tripes, lots of vegetables, which are flavored with ground roasted peanuts (or peanut butter), onions, and garlic.***
