The weather seems to get along with this joyous celebration, the sky was in the shade of blue, clouds hovering above as the mighty rays of sun shared it's intense heat.It was nine in the morning, the school was bustling with joy and enthusiasm as we lined up in form. My mother held my arm as we walked to our spots and there I saw my class.
We lined up and instantly, my mother was talking to another parent. One can hear the chatters from the students as their eyes shines in luster, lips stretched wide as they happily greet familiar faces.
"Bongga Jamie ah!" I heard Hanie said as I took in her face, I smiled and arrogantly replied.
"Of course I'm just too pretty"
"Heh! You would never change eh?" Tintin came as she hugged my arm. "I'll surely miss your confident and pretty self" she continued while I giggled at her.
"There's no one like me after all, but don't worry, I would also miss you and the rest of our friends"
My eyes wander to every student that I see, I watched my best friends smiling at me as they reminisce about our high school days, the class that I've been for just a year muttering something under their breath while the others were busy chatting with their parents and friends. The rest are people that was just a passerby in my life, someone that I knew the face of but had never talked to and some that I had never noticed before.
The train of students continued to move till it was our section's time to be introduced. I wandered my eyes, the classroom that we've spent to in a year was still there, the familiar garden where we used to eat our lunch on, the court we used to practice and watched games on and the gates that we used to come and go and the memories we have in this school, it will all soon fade along time.
Then it was my time, I walked with my mother on my left side, the familiar tune of our graduation march rang loudly in my ears.
When I was about to reached the school court, my mother left and went to the sidelines and sat while she watched me. I walked with my classmate with me, then turned left and stood as we wait for the rest of the graduates.
It felt like a very long time and then we sat, I was busy fiddling with my hands as the speech from our principal resonates into the open court. The rest of the speech was done by the esteemed guests and it felt like seconds before we was forced to stand up again and sang the usual graduation song.
I forgot to tell you, our graduation song that we'll sing after we reach the end of the event is Farewell to you my friend. It's still a classic song for everyone and also for graduates to sing on their graduation.
It was a somewhat boring matter I'm telling you, I mean I'm really glad and happy that I'll be able to graduate with honors too, but it's really boring for me.
Then after the pilot section got five students remaining to take their diplomas, the guys from our class stood up and like a train, they marched into the court in circle before standing behind the pilot section. It's our sign, if there are five remaining students in the first section, then the next section is set to be in line.
After that, it's our turn and we did what the guys did earlier. My heart thumped along the song as I took another step and then another step until it was my time to go.
I heard our adviser announcing my name as I walked to the stage. Then I shook hands with the esteemed guests and picked up my diploma before bowing in the middle of the stage and got down.
We stood still until the last student from our class came and then we finally took a seat. I looked at my side and managed to get a view of Willmark's head, he was having a conversation with another classmate though I didn't get to see more of him since he's behind me.
The students got their diploma and it was time for the students with honors and high honors to be presented in stage. It didn't take a while before it reached me, my mother was already on my left side and as practiced, she took the medal from the esteemed guests and placed it on me before posing for the photographer.
The school hired a photographer, it's from Roma studio just steps away from the elementary school in pantok, to take photos of us before we go to the stage and then when we walk up to the stage and got our diplomas as well as our medal.
Then it's time for us the valedictorian to give her speech, she thanked the people that stood by her, the teachers that guided her and the school that she studied. Then she moved to her friends, gave some high school memories that we would surely miss, the hardships that we experienced and how we overcome them. She gave advices and look out for the future that is uncertain for all of us.
Soon after, she finished her speech and we soon sang our graduation song. Everyone sang aloud, I could see some students crying a little while I laughed at them with my friends. Each of us held each other's hands, some were filming our graduation with their phones as we sang with our hearts out. We didn't care if we messed our lines and the disorganized chairs, we didn't care and they didn't really scolded us. Maybe it's because it's the last time we'll be here, we don't know, we just made our time more worthwhile.
The song ended and a lot of students threw their diplomas in the air, I didn't do it since it'll just damaged mine. After that, our graduation ended but of course it wouldn't end without having a picture taking.
I took my phone from my skirts pocket and took countless pictures of my friends and I along with some of my classmates and my other friends.
Then it reached to the point that I was held back by Willmark, he came to me with his oh-so chanting smile and said.
"Would you mind taking a picture with me?"
I nodded not trusting my voice, my mother came at the right time after I saw her having conversations with Willmark's mother and took the picture.
I remember being so giddy and nervous at the same time, my eyes on a half crescent moon shape as my rogued lips stretched in a bright smile.
It was the end of my highschool years.
Notes:
• Roma studio, it's just steps away from Doña Susana in pantok binangonan rizal, a photography studio as well as a school supply store that is also filled with toys that elementary students would love.
• Bongga, when you're dressed like a diva (for a girl) or when you’re pimped out (for a guy). You’re workin’ it, struttin’ it, walkin’ with attitude and having a good time, all at the same time.***
Ha, highschool life is the best year on every students life but for me, it was senior year that was the best moment. I remember being so withdrawn to everything, I just read Wattpad and didn't conversed with anyone. I still am active back then but I was just too busy with Wattpad that I didn't really remember my highschool days.Anyways, I hope you feel as nostalgic as me because I sure am. Thank you for the support and love. Have a great day everyone! Stay safe and healthy as always okay?!
