Ever since that day, there was a layer of tension and awkwardness between Draco and Seraphina. She didn't catch him looking her way anymore, and he remained distant from her, just like she wanted.
That was... what she wanted, didn't she?
Potions ended without any disasters. "
See you later, Seraphina," Harry said and left with Ron. They were planning to hang out with Dean and Neville on the quidditch field.
Seraphina packed up her things and looked up. Draco was the only one left. Oh gosh. Should I just leave? Or should I just wait until he goes first? Whatever. Why am I even thinking about him? Seraphina shook her head and headed for the door. She almost rammed into Draco and paused to look up at him. Without even glancing at her, he strode off, and she was left alone with a heavy heart.
"He's the one who's at fault... so why is he the one getting mad? I just don't get him." Shaking her head, she exited the room and headed for the Gryffindor dormitory.
"Seraphina! Wait up!"
She paused and turned around. "Oliver."
He was out of breath as he ran over to catch up with her. "Hey... can we talk?"
-----
Seraphina looked up and saw the Womping Willow not too far away. She always hated that tree. She saw how much damage it had done to Ron's flying car and shuddered at the mere thought of being caught up in that kind of situation.
"So... I owe you an apology." Oliver rubbed his hands together with a look of guilt on his face. He looked into her eyes and said, "I'm sorry, Seraphina. You really didn't deserve any of those things I said. I didn't really mean them either. I was just really disappointed."
"No, Oliver." Seraphina quickly said, "You had every right to yell at me. I'm sorry. I should've kept my head in the game. Because of me, we lost our first game."
Oliver shook his head. "No. Malfoy was right. Surprisingly." He blinked in bafflement.
"Nothing should've mattered to me but your health. I'm really glad you weren't injured that badly. I would've lost a great chaser." He put his hand on her shoulder and smiled. "So thanks for making it."
Seraphina chuckled, "Thanks, Oliver. And I know how much quidditch means to you. So it's okay. I understand."
Oliver clucked his tongue with a smile. "I knew you would. And I hope you know that no matter how much I yell at you, I could never hate you. I mean, people call us the long-lost siblings for a reason, ey? Wood, Blakewood. You look just like me. Except for that hair of yours. Where did you even get it?" "
Okay, now that's offensive," she said, making him laugh.
Oliver sighed and shook his head. "Now we'll have to make sure we win the next game against Hufflepuff next week."
"Don't worry. We will," Seraphina promised. "We can practice every day."
Oliver smiled back, but his eyes grew quizzical. "Seraphina, be honest with me." "
Sure, ask away."
"Are you... dating Malfoy?"
"WHAT?! NO!"
"Are you sure?"
"YES! Oliver, how could you even ask me that?" Seraphina rolled her eyes with a shake of her head.
"Okay, it's just... I don't understand why he saved you."
"He did what?" Seraphina stared at him.
"You didn't know? The one who caught you when you fell off your broom... was Malfoy," Oliver revealed, making her heart flutter. Now, she remembered whose eyes she had seen before falling unconscious. Her heart started thumping hard against her chest, and she looked away in confusion. "He was frantic. I mean, I've never seen Malfoy actually care about someone. He was the one who took you to Madame Pomfrey. And when she tended to Harry first, he raised hell. He even threatened to take her job. Talk about dramatic."
Oliver shook his head. "Anyway, I gotta go. I'll see you at practice." He lightly patted her back and ran off.
Seraphina gazed at the Womping Willow with a churning stomach. He saved me... but all I did was give him a hard time.
