Chapter 16: Betrayed

"Ma'am Valerie, mauuna na po akong umuwi," paalam ko kay Ma'am Valerie na ngayon ay tutok sa harapan ng laptop niya at halos mag-isang linya na ang kanyang mga kilay dahil sa pagiging seryoso.

Mukhang late siyang uuwi marahil ang dami niyang kailangang gawin lalo na't ang daming investors ang balak makipagsundo sa Silverstine.

Hindi niya nagawang makasagot sa akin dahil nasa laptop niya lang ang kanyang atensyon. Nagkibit-balikat na lang akong nilisan ang kanyang opisina upang makauwi na.

Sinukbit ko ang bag ko nang makarating ako sa huling palapag. Tuluyan na akong lumabas ng kompanya at hindi napigilan ng sulok ng labi ko ang umangat dahil sa Wrangler na naka-park sa gilid.

I stepped closer and knocked on the window. When it went down, I crossed my arms and raised my brow while smirking. The scent of him immediately made me comfy and at ease. It was the scent tattooed in my mind, and the owner of that is Orcus.

"Mind telling me when did you arrive, Prosecutor?" I asked, and I just felt that I'm floating in clouds. Everything seems light as I saw him, but sadly, I have to pretend that this feeling is just a misunderstanding.

"Mhh, probably an hour ago," he answered which made my eyes widen. One hour ago? Why didn't he tell me that he's already here?

"Hindi ka naman nagsabi na susunduin mo ako. That's new to me," I said, but my forehead creased when he went outside of the car and came in front of me. I tilted my head with such confusion.

"Why are you looking at me like that? Baka matunaw ako niyan," pagbibiro ko pero nanatili lang siyang seryoso kaya nawala ang ngiti sa aking labi at nilabanan lang ang kanyang tingin.

I stepped closer, the reason why I felt the warmth of his body being passed to mine. I locked eyes with him again, and with every second pass, my mind is getting crazy, and my heart is racing so fast.

Calm down, Serina.

He chuckled. "Are you aware that you're drop-dead gorgeous?"

It felt like my ears don't work all of a sudden. My eyes blinked fast as I tried to process what he mouthed, but this heart of mine didn't obey me. It just keeps beating fast as time goes by that we are stuck on each other.

"P-Pardon?" I stuttered with my lips trembling.

A grimace formed on his lips as his hand patted my hair. It was rare to see him like this, and I'm happy that he's trying to move one. I could see that he's doing something to let go of what happened, but can he still do it if I'm gone?

Hindi ka kawalan, Serina.

Umiling na lang at binuksan ang pinto para makapasok na ako sa loob ng kotse. Binasa ko ang labi ko nang maka-upo na ako at pinanood siyang umikot sa harapan ng kotse hanggang sa makasakay na ito.
