Chapter 42

I woke up to the sound of my phone ringing.

Nakatulog pala ako habang nagbabasa. I squint at my phone and see an unknown number.

I answer, "Hello?"

"Mi, nasaan ka?"

It's Ollie.

I rub at my eyes, "Saan mo nakuha number ko?"

He sighs, "I got it from Marky. Nasaan ka nga?"

I bite the inside of my cheek. We almost kissed last night and it was so romantic, but now I have to tell him I'm out with some other guy?

Does this make me malandi or something?

I sigh, still a bit sleepy so I yawn while answering, "I'm with Chase. Why?"

There's silence on the other line and I bet pinapakalma muna ni Ollie ang sarili n'ya before siya sumagot sa akin. Or he's so upset he doesn't even know what to say.

"Why did you yawn? Is he boring you?"

I grin, "He is not boring."

Then I roll my eyes, "Well right now he's not anything because he's not back yet."

I look around the office, wala pa ring tao and my coffee is on the coffee table probably gone cold.

"Back from where?"

I sigh and stand up para mag-stretch, sumakit ang likod ko sa pagtulog nang nakaupo, "Nasa office n'ya kami, bigla kasi siyang pinatawag dito kaya nandito ako hinihintay ko siyang matapos sa meeting n'ya."

There's surprise in his voice, "He's making you wait?"

I roll my eyes, "Pumayag naman ako, he was really upset about it. Tsaka hindi naman gano'n katagal," I look at my watch at nanlaki ang mata ko, "Hala! I've been here for two hours na?"

"What? You don't even know how long you've been waiting?"

Napalunok ako, "Nakatulog ako e. Nagbabasa kasi ako kanina habang naghihintay."

"Where are you? Susunduin na kita."

I bite the inside of my cheek, sablay yata ako kasi sinabi ko kay Ollie. Chase will be upset if I leave pero I don't think my staying will be better. If Kuya finds out Chase will never hear the end of it.

"Wait lang. I'll let Chase know muna na aalis na ako. Baka mag-alala 'yon if I leave without telling him."

He sighs, "Fine. I'll call back after two minutes."

Hindi manlang siya nag-"bye" bago n'ya ibaba ang phone.

He's so pissed.

I check my phone and see around 20 messages from Chase. All asking if I was okay, if I was hungry and a lot of the messages, he's apologizing for what happened.

I text him back: Sorry, nakaidlip ako, sobrang comfortable ng couch mo. 😊 I think I should go though baka after ng meeting mo you'll be tired na, or you'll still need to get some work done. Stop apologizing. I know you're a busy guy. I'm going to go home muna. Thanks!

I send the message and wala pang five seconds nag-ring na ulit ang phone ko. I roll my eyes and answer it, "Yes?"

He just says, "Give me the address, Mi."

I sigh, "I'll text it to you, hindi ko kabisado e."

"Okay."

Sakto ang pasok ni Kat after ko'ng ibaba ang phone, "Hi Kat. Sorry, can I get the address here?"

She frowns but immediately schools her features, "Oh. Sure Miss Mia."

I give her my phone so she can type it in.

She says while typing, "I'm sorry Miss Mia."

I dart my eyes to her, she looks uncomfortable.

"Kat, why are you apologizing?"

She returns my phone after typing in the address and I send it to Ollie.

She sighs, "Sir Chase texted me that you're leaving daw. So, I just feel like I didn't do my job well."

Nanlaki ang mata ko, "No. You were very helpful. Nakatulog nga ako sa sobrang komportable ko dito. It's just that I've been waiting for a while and I told a family friend that I'm waiting here."

I sigh, "He didn't think it's a good idea for me to wait some more. Baka kasi sabihin n'ya sa kapatid ko, I don't want to get Chase into trouble with my family."

She nods, "I understand Miss Mia. Sir Chase is disappointed about this meeting because he knows that it's important for him to be here, but this was not in his schedule. This usually never happens since Sir Chase is always on top of things, but this particular meeting can't be helped."

I take her hand, "Please tell Chase I'm sorry that I need to leave. I'm not mad at him please tell him that."

She nods and my phone rings.

Si Ollie.

Kat smiles and gestures to the door, "I'll see you to the lobby, Miss Mia."

We walk outside the office and we take the elevator down the lobby.

Ollie is already at the driveway when I get out of the building.

He's leaning against his Jeep door with arms crossed over his chest. He looks pissed.

I stop walking and turn to Kat, I offer my hand, "Thank you, Kat. I hope to see you soon."

She smiles, "You're welcome, Miss Mia."

I turn to face Ollie and walk towards him. He pushes himself from the car door and opens it for me, still not smiling.

I get in the car and sigh. Akala ko isasara na kaagad ni Ollie ang pinto, but he stands there with the door open as he puts on my seatbelt.

"Kaya ko naman mag-seatbelt."

He just continues to put it on and then closes the door when he's done.

I check my phone and then I see a new message from Chase.

I'm so sorry, Mia. I've already wasted your time today, but please let me apologize in person to you tomorrow.

Pagpasok ni Ollie sa kotse, "Nag-text sa 'yo? Anong sabi?"

I sigh, "He didn't mean it, Ollie. Nagkataon lang talaga na biglaan siyang may meeting."

He starts to drive, "That's not the problem, Mi. If I had something to do and within the first five minutes, I can already tell that it's going to take me a long time, I would not have made you wait."

Inulit n'ya ng may diin, "I would never make you wait."

I scoff and murmur, "You made me wait for years."

Sumilip ako sa kanya and he has a faint smile on his face.

He clears his throat before saying, "I would never make you wait ever again."
