Chapter 44

It's the night of Lola's party and I'm getting ready.

Light make up lang ang inilalagay ko because I don't really know how to put a full make up on. And my dress is already nice, so I think that's enough.

I put on my lilac, embroidered dress. I put my hair up in a low ponytail, I'll be mingling and making sure everything's okay so it's easier to just put my hair up.

I leave my room walk downstairs. I smile when I see Ollie at the foot of the stairs, my heart immediately thumps double-time in my chest. It's like prom night all over again, but I don't know if tonight will have a better ending or a worse one.

Ollie turns around, sees me walking down the steps and he smiles.

I smile back.

He looks dashing in his light blue suit jacket and his white button-down shirt, and it seems like he approves of my dress because his grin grows wider as he looks me up and down.

I bite the inside of my cheek to stop the mukhang-baliw-sa-kilig grin from showing.

I reach the bottom of the steps and I face him.

He just stares at me, so I use my hand to flick an invisible lint from his suit jacket, "You clean up well."

He smirks, "And you are a vision in that dress."

I smile.

He touches the back of my hair, "Bakit hindi nakaladlad ang buhok mo?"

I touch the back of my head, "E kasi marami akong gagawin mamaya. Mag-aasikaso kaya I don't want the hassle of my hair falling on my face."

He nods.

We say nothing for a while, and then he says, "Save me a dance for later?"

I nod, "Sure."

"Mia?"

I turn to my left and see Chase standing there in a dark gray sweater over a white button-down shirt and khaki pants. He's also carrying a bouquet of red roses and a paper bag.

I walk over to him to greet him, "Hey, Chase."

He looks to Ollie and me and he says, "Am I underdressed? I mean I can change and come back."

Paglingon ko kay Ollie nakasandal lang siya sa hawakan ng hagdan.

I look back to Chase, "No. It's fine. Wala namang dress code. We just wanted to dress up a little."

He nods, "Where's your Lola? I just want to give these to her before the program starts."

I smile. He's so thoughtful.

"Sure, nasa kwarto siya, samahan kita."

I look back at Ollie and he just gives us a curt nod.

He hasn't pressed me yet for any answers or questions, so I guess it's a good thing. Magiging tahimik naman siguro ang gabi na 'to.

We walk over to Lola's room at saktong palabas ng kwarto si Mommy, "Hi Mom. Pwede po makausap si Lola? Chase just wants to greet her personally."

She smiles at Chase, "Aw. That's so sweet. Thanks Chase. You can go inside. She's about to come out na rin."

I walk in first and laugh a little when I see Lola.

She's wearing a lilac lace dress and she has a lily on her hair.

"Lola! Hindi mo po sinabing twinning pala tayo tonight!"

She laughs, "Nakita ko kasi ang dress mo apo. Feeling ko bagay sa akin."
