((Em's POV))
The next day, I groaned as I sat down in Aria class. Last night I had stayed up late to memorize the passage that was due today. I may be an Aria in training, but it takes a bit for me to memorize stuff, but when I do it sticks. I looked at the paper again to make sure I had it, but I was interrupted before I even started.
"Em!"
It was Carter. His cheeks were red, and he was basically hiding behind me now.
"Who's that guy over there..?" He asked pointing.
I looked to where his finger was pointing, and smiled.
"That's Bon. He's a nice guy, but doesn't come off as one at first."
He took a deep breath, making me look at him. His cheeks were completely red now, making me laugh a bit.
"Go talk to him."
"No way! I'm to nervous!"
"Plus your as red as a tomato," I added giggling.
"SHUT UP EM!" He snapped back.
Everyone's attention was now towards us since he yelled. Quickly he hid behind me again, not wanting attention. I turned my head a bit just to glance at him.
"He's looking at us," he whispered.
"I at least want you to talk to him after class! No excuses!"
The bell rung for class to begin. Everyone was taking their seats.
"Sit next to me today Carter. She doesn't care where we sit. As long as we are passing her class, that's all she cares about."
He nodded, sliding into the seat next to me silently, his face still red.
A small smile formed on my face. Things were just like the old days again.
• • •At lunch I had packed my food. The schools food was getting really expensive, and I couldn't afford it anymore. I took out a Dr. Pepper, and the rice and sushi that the old man actually made for me.
"Oh Dr. Pepper, your the only man I need in my life."
"Em!"
I turned to find Rin behind me.
"Hey," I said with a smile.
"Can I talk to you... Alone?"
"Sure... No one else is here yet.
What do you want to talk about."
He sighed, not meeting my eyes.
"I have something important to tell you. Like, really important. I wanted to tell you for a while. I just didn't have the confidence to speak to you about it."
Slowly I took a bite of the sushi, looking at him.
"That is?" I asked with my mouth full.
"Well.... What do you think about demons..?"
"Demons? I think every single one of them should be off this planet."
He paused, waiting for me to explain my answer.
"The day that my parents died... The rocks fell on our house. I found out later that that was a demon underground who caused the earthquake... If that demon wasn't there, then they would still be alive." My hands were shaking a bit, making me drop my chopsticks on the box my food was in.
"Oh, I didn't know that..." He said silently. "I just wanted you to know that.... I'm a demon."
My eyes widened. He was a demon?! One of those monsters that inhabit this world?!
"What the hell?! WHY ARE YOU A
DEMON?!" I yelled.
"Actually, I'm not just any demon... I'm the son of Satan," he said shakily.
I stood up quickly, knocking my half eaten lunch over. I have heard enough of this lie.
"Your lying.... You can't be the freaking son of Satan! There's no way!"
He started to look mad, his blue eyes looked like flames were in them.
"I knew you would react this way! I knew I shouldn't have told you! Everyone told me you would take it well, but I guess not!"
I sighed, and picked up the unopened Dr. Pepper.
"I just... Need time to think about all of this... It's all overwhelming... Sorry."
I left him standing there, with my spilled lunch to keep him company.• • •
After school I started to make my way back to the shrine. Rin and I didn't talk for the rest of the day. Still I was still thinking about it.
"How.... He's lying, he can't be the son of Satan!"
"Em!"
Quickly I glanced over my shoulder to find Carter running after me. I stopped walking, and he was now standing besides me.
"Em we need to talk."
"Sure, I'm all ears."
"You should really treat Rin the same"
My breath hitched. How did he know about that so quickly? Did Rin tell him? It just happened a couple of hours ago!
"How do you know that?"
"Rin told us he was going to tell you. Your reaction surprised me."
"He's a demon Carter, I can't-"
"I don't give a damn about anything that happened in your past. Now is now, and that happened so long ago."
I was shocked at him cursing like that. No language like that ever has come out of his mouth before, at least that I know of. He continued to speak.
"Like you told me long ago when I was leaving the group for that certain reason. If we are true friends you will forgive... Your a true friend to Rin Em, I hope you see that. Don't let your past get in the way of something Rin didn't do."
He left me alone to stand there. All I could do though, was cry of not knowing what to do.
