September 2nd

Hickory Hill

Jackie had already been to Merrywood before dashing out again, leaving Lee to go and see Ethel. Upon entering, Ethel and Jackie headed into the living room and sat talking sipping some tea. "Where is Bobby?" Jackie asked.

"Oh he's up in New York. Thinking of running for Senate up there" Ethel explained. Jackie laughed. "If you need any help with the campaign I'd gladly assist" Jackie joked before the women laughed. Ethel was of course, curious about Jackie's sudden appearance in Washington. And of course, Jackie decided to explain it all to Ethel.

"Wow Jackie" Ethel stammered, showing the same reaction as Lee had done the night before. "If I'm honest, I would have done the same" Ethel added. Jackie smiled.

"It's different though. You've got a husband. I don't" Jackie said, slightly choking up. "I have no one. Bobby is there for you. When you cry, he cries with you. He holds you in his arms and tells you that everything will be fine. Even when it won't. He always looks on the bright side" Jackie poured out things that had been building up inside her.

"As for me, I just have to lock myself in my room. The only thing I have to keep me strong, is I feel like Jack is in the room with me. Like a presence sort of thing" Jackie sort of dazed a little and Ethel looked at her. This was a Jackie she had never seen before.

"Jackie" Ethel waved in front of her face. Jackie snapped out of her dream and looked back at her sister in law. "Jackie, if you ever need anything, Bobby and I will always be here. We'll always look after you". Ethel comforted a slightly tearful Jackie. Jackie smiled. "Thank you Ethel" Jackie whispered before the sisters embraced.
