♡ FELI
Fae stops dancing and stares at him with her mouth open. He crouches down, looking worried but there was no need for it. Fae runs into his arms crying, tears forming in his eyes as he rubs her back lovingly.
I watch my little girl disappear in the arms of the bulky Dutchman, bursting into tears when I hear her heartfelt words. "This is the best birthday gift ever! I've missed you so much Anthony! I love you."
His voice breaks when he softly replies, "I love you too Fae. And I've missed you too. And your mom. Happy Birthday, lieverd." He pulls back a little and hands her a small gift box.
She opens it excitedly and starts to cry again. "Mommy look!"
I walk over to them and kneel down to look at the gift he got her. It's a unicorn jewelry set. Earrings, a necklace, and a bracelet. I can't believe he got her that, it's perfect for her.
He looks into my eyes and says: "Unicorns for the most beautiful girl in the world. She's one of a kind."
The tears stream down my cheeks and I have trouble keeping my balance, crouched down on my high heels. Anthony grabs a hold of my arm and I shoot him a grateful look.
Fae turns around to me, "Can I get my ears pierced now mommy? I'm a big girl now."
"Yes, you can baby. We will do it this week, okay?"
She hugs me and whispers, "Please don't send him away again mommy. You love him."
This girl, my daughter, she's my everything. And notices a lot more than I think. I kiss her cheek and let her go.
Carmon holds her hand out to Fae and promises to help her put on her new jewelry. Fae grabs her hand and walks out with her, talking happily. Carmon will always be a second mom to her.
My knees start to shake and I look up into Anthony's blue eyes, which makes the shaking worse. He helps me stand up and chews on the inside of his cheek nervously. His big hands encase mine, providing warmth and comfort.
He's really here.
He hesitantly asks: "May I hug you too?"
I look around and notice everyone else has left the kitchen, it's just me and him. I smile up at him, "Yes, please hug me."
His big arms wrap around me gently and I hug him back, resting my face against his stomach. He's still insanely tall and he grew a lot of muscle, but his hug feels the same. Loving, protective, and sweet.
I take in his scent and feel it again. The sense of being at home, being where I belong.
God, how I missed him.
It's like a switch is flipped and all my heartbreak and longing comes pouring out. I sob uncontrollably and cling to his shirt, while he holds me close, whispering sweet words down to me. "Let it all out Fé. I know you've been hurting all this time. I know. It will be okay. I'm here for you. I'm not letting you send me away again. I love you."
His voice, smell, heart... All of my old feelings, the ones I've been trying to suppress come rushing back in, making me dizzy. And feel guilty. Why did I send him away? He was perfect for me and he still is. We were meant to be and I sent him away.
What if we can't get back what we had? What if I ruined it forever? Wanting to be together and actually being able to do it are two completely different things. And what about work? Where will we live? My thoughts are killing me and Anthony holds me at arm's length to look into my eyes.
"Stop it Fé. Stop coming up with doom scenarios. I'm here. We're here together and still care a lot about each other. Let's focus on that. Build on that. I love you so much. Loved you from the moment I've laid eyes on you."
