♡ AMA
I stare at Noah hugging one of the boys on Benny's team. It looks so cute that I choke up a little. What the fuck am I going to do? How can I forget about him when I keep running into him? And his sister. She's so nice, but she's also trying to get information out of me and it's getting on my nerves.
I watch the referee walk onto the field and know the game is about to start. I hope Harold makes it on time. He promised me he would. Just as I'm about to feel sad for Benny, I see the salt and pepper-haired man walk up to the stands. I stand up and yell: "Mister Alderidge!" He sees me and smiles as he starts to make his way over.
I ask Noelle to switch places with me so I can sit next to Harold. He pulls me in for a hug and scolds me. "I'm Harold to you, Ama. Especially in a situation like this. You're going steady with my son after all." We laugh together and sit down.
"I'm so glad you're here Harold. You won't believe your eyes when you see Benny... Um, I mean Benedictus play."
Harold raises his eyebrows and says: "Benny? I like it."
I see Noah trying to shield the sun with his hand and before I know it I'm on my way to the dugout. I call for Benny and he runs up to the fence right away. I tell him his dad is here and he screams for his dad, who stands up to wave at him. I take my cap off and ask Benny to give it to Noah. I throw it over the fence and make my way back to my seat between Noelle and Harold.
I ask Mona for her spare sunglasses and she doesn't even ask why. She just gives them to me as she talks to Noelle about something. I watch Benny run up to Noah with my cap and Noah takes the cap from him looking confused. He looks up and stares into my eyes for a second, before nodding his head and putting the cap on.
I sigh and Harold says: "I won't ask what is going on between the coach and you. But I would like to know something else. Are you really not working for your dad's company anymore? I thought you were the one to run that place someday, to be honest."
"That's what he made me believe. While he spent the last 8 years of his life fucking a mistress. A mistress my mom knew about. A mistress he left the company to." I look at Harold's shocked expression and say: "I'm sorry. I'm still very angry about it all."
Harold sighs and says: "There were a lot of rumors about your dad. But betraying you is something I never thought he would do. Maybe because I can't imagine doing it to my kids. I'm here, watching baseball because of what I heard about your dad. I don't want to be like him."
I stare at him and feel the tears burn in my eyes. Harold sees it and pulls me close for a hug. He whispers in my ear: "You're beautiful, strong, and smart. Don't let anyone tell you any different. If I was twenty years younger, I'd ask you out on a date."
I chuckle and say: "It's not the age Harold. It's the fact that you're married. And that I'm dating your son."
Harold laughs and wraps his arm around me. The game starts and we cheer the Goldfish on with everything we have. My voice is hoarse at the end of the game but they won. I jump up and hug Harold, who suddenly stiffens a little under my touch. I turn to Noelle and hug her too.
Benny is running around the field to get rid of his last bit of energy and Noah is carrying Nicky on his shoulders. Harold descends the steps of the stands and as he realizes I'm doing the same, he holds his hand out to me. I grab it and allow him to guide me down.
Benny comes running up to the fence all excited, "Ama! Daddy! Ama! Daddy!"
I laugh at Harold and crouch down to look Benny in the eye. He smiles wide and thanks me for helping him play today. I push my cheek against the fence and he kisses it. I look up at Harold and notice him staring at my cleavage.
