Soleil’s eyes couldn't help but wander back to the window where he last had a glimpsed of Elisha. He wondered what was going on between her and that demon of hers. He felt her distress that was immediately followed by annoyance then her shock and after that there was nothing.

“Sol." A soft voice and an equally soft hand on his cheek bought his attention back to the woman beside him and he noted the sizzle of electricity bought by her touch. It was an uncomfortable sensation yet nothing much that he can easily ignore.

“You’re mated.” Soleil immediately detected a hint of accusation on her voice and a sense of remorse hit him when he saw the pain in her face. He didn’t want to hurt her in any way if he can prevent it but having Elisha as his mate was something that he will never regret or change.

“I’m so sorry, Kary. But yes I'm mated to Elisha."

Silence fell between them but Soleil used it to sense his mate yet there was nothing for him to feel and he wondered why.

“So it means you're finally coming back. With.. With your mate." Karylla asked tentatively, her eyes bright with hope.

“No, Kary. I won’t come back." Soleil replied, looking straight at the silvery eyes of the woman who could've been his mate if he didn't exiled himself.

“But.. But why? She would be safe there. She will live longer than her mortal lifespan."

"Kary listen to me. Elisha is different.  She a Tuatha." Soleil could see the evident shock on Karylla's face as she gaped at him. It was the same shock he had felt when he found Elisha when she was still a child and when the Lady Viviene kept him away from her.

“Not a full Tuatha but a descendant of them. Part mortal, part Tuatha, and you know that when she dies, her people will take her soul away, hide her in their mystical island. You have to understand, Kary.  Where her soul goes, I go." Soleil continued then the silence was back.

“Is. . Is it possible for us to live together? I mean. . I mean take me as your other mate. Back in our land.. it was.. it was not uncommon to have.." Karylla trailed off when she saw Soleil shaking his head in disagreement.

“No, Kary.  I would never do that to my mate. She won't understand our tradition and I will never force her to understand it." Soleil explained as carefully as he could, wanting to alleviate the obvious hurt that Karylla was currently giving out. He feel sorry for her and hope with everything he had that she find her own mate soon or find  a Fomorian warrior she could take as her mate.

“What about us, Soleil?  We had and we still have a connection.  I know you felt it too."

Yes. The connection, the bond that they had shared before when they thought that they were each other’s mate. It was still there and he won’t fool himself by saying otherwise but whatever it was, its history. He left everything behind when he exiled himself.  Everything including the woman he was supposed to mate with.

“I felt it but there’s no us now, Karylla. Please understand that I will not hurt her by taking another one as a mate."

He sat back on the bench, fighting to bring his temper down. "Just go back, Kary.  Go back. "

"I can’t, Sol.  Even if I wanted to I can never go back. "

“What do you mean by you can’t go back? And why heck are you doing here when you know that Ragnarok was at its beginning?" Soleil didn’t try to hide the annoyance in his voice, he wanted nothing but to be with his mate right now, not with a wayward Fomorian who was testing the limit of his patience.
