Anakin found himself standing outside the doors of the clone's room. It was similar to their barracks back on Coruscant just on the Resolute instead. Fives had once called it their home way from home away from home because it came after Kamino and Coruscant.
This time it wasn't loud like it normal was, where he could hear the men shouting from outside. No, it was silent. Not a sound. Anakin knocked and waited for someone to come and let him in.
To his surprise it was Rex who greeted him with a despairing face.
" Hey Rex. How you holding up?" he asked already knowing the answer.
" I'm fine General. Is there something wrong?" he replied with a broken voice.
Anakin saw behind his Captain were the rest of his legion. They were sitting on their bunks not saying a word. " I'm sorry, did I interrupt something?" he apologized feeling stupid for barging in when they were grieving the loss of their brother.
Rex shook his head, " You're fine General. We were just telling stories about Fives." he pointed to the messy bunk in the corner which didn't have a person on it.
" I'll let you get back to it." Anakin turned to leave.
" Wait, Sir. How are you and Commander Tano doing?"
If he were being honest. He was tired. Tired of war. Tired of death and loss. He hated what had become of the war, but he was also grateful. Without it he wouldn't have met his men. They were some of his most trusted friends. He also wouldn't have meet Ahsoka, his little sister he never asked for, but wouldn't trade her for anything in the galaxy.
Rex was still waiting for him to respond.
" Its hard Rex. Seeing people, whether it be innocents, Jedi, good soldiers...a friend fall, it's always hard. Iv'e been at this for a while, although I'll never get used to it, I have found ways to cope. Ahsoka though... Fives's death has really affected her. She blames herself for the outcome."
Rex was sad thinking how his young commander was blaming herself for Five's death. She was basically still a child who was forced to grow up. Unlike him, she had to live through all the years of the death she's witnessed. He had to only live half of that. Not that he didn't feel grief for the ones he lost, but he was also programmed to deal with it better, some more than others.
" I could talk to her tomorrow. I'm sure the boys could use her company as well." he offered.
" If it's not too much trouble, I think she'd really like that."
" Of course sir. She's always welcomed. Same goes to you."
Anakin thanked Rex and went back to his own room where he needed some much needed sleep.
