I'm currently in a spa getting my hair and makeup done in LA. Tonight is the night where I find out if I win best new artist, best R&B performance, record of the year, and best traditional R&B Performance, and if Sidney wins best new artist, record of the year, best pop solo performance, and best pop song of 2018.
Fathima is doing Sidney's make up as our hairstylist. I forgot their name but they're really and pretty chill and are working on my hair. I'm on my phone texting Chaeryeong and I may have gained a crush on her.
Chaeryeong: I miss u babe
Me: I miss u too baby girl
Chaeryeong: did u call me baby girl
Me: Yeah
Me: is that okay
Chaeryeong: Yeah
Chaeryeong:I liked it
Me: cool
I look up to see Sidney smiling at me.
"What," I ask.
"Are you talking to Chaeryeong again," she asks.
"Um, yeah. How did you tell," I say?
"I'm your best friend, basically your sister, I know you better than anyone," she says, smiling at me brightly.
"You right," I say as I see Chaeryeong type making me smile brighter.
"You guys have been highkey flirting for two months, why don't you ask her out," Sidney asks.
"What if she doesn't like me," I ask.
"You're always so confident," she says, making me chuckle.
"You're right, I should ask her out as my girlfriend when we come back," I say.
A couple of hours later, I'm walking down the red carpet holding Sidney's hands tightly.
"HER can we speak with you," a white guy with blue eyes says.
"Of course," I say smiling.
"How are you tonight in this beautiful Los Angeles weather," he asks.
"I'm doing great, how about you," I ask.
"I'm doing well, who are you wearing tonight," he asks me.
"Um, my stylist made my dress but my shoes and bag are from Versace," I answer.
"Are you going to perform tonight," he asks.
"Yes," I answer as the smile on my face never falls. Sidney motions me to continue moving forward. We take a couple of photos for the media and head inside to our dressing room.
"Did you see Beyonce?" I asked my best friend while grabbing her upper arms after looking for someone.
"Omg yes," she shrinks in with a giant smile on her face.
"She's so beautiful," I sigh out with a smile.
"Did you see Lady Gaga," she shouts.
"She's perfect as always," I say as I watch my other side jump around happily.
"We have to introduce ourselves to her," she says.
"Sure," I say as the show producer tells us to come outside.
It's been an hour and 30 minutes and I have been snacking hardcore to the point where my manager tries to snatch them. They have been saying speeches and 90% of the time I have been looking at all the celebrities with stars in my eyes.
"And the winner for best R&B performance-" the host says.
Is that Bruno Mars, when did he get out of retirement. Oh my god is that Childish Gambino.
"Goes to Focus by Her," James Corden says. I look around not knowing what to do.
Wait! What? I won a Grammy, Nah is probably another person.
My manager motions me to go upstage. I quickly walk up the stairs and James looks at me with a kind welcoming smile, calming down all the millions of butterflies fluttering through my stomach.
"Here you go, I'm going to get off so you can speak," he says softly, making me nod.
"Um- hello, I didn't write anything cause I genuinely didn't believe that I wasn't going to win so um. I want to thank a couple of people, if you don't mind I'm going to switch into Korean. Hello to all my Korean fans, thank you for loving and supporting me and I wouldn't be here without you guys. Back to English, but I want to thank my parents, especially my mom, my older cousin Chris and my fans. The person that I want to thank the most is actually in this room right now." I say before walking down the stairs and walking to Sidney. I stand in front of my best friend forever. The only person that can ever complete me and someone that I love with all my heart.
She smiles and takes my hand and I lead her to the stage. We look at each other and smile before I look back at the camera.
"This is Sidney or to you guys Sol. She is my best friend, the person that pushes me harder, and the person that I non romantically love more than anyone in this world. She helps me be the best person I can ever be and she means more than the world to me. I grew up as a daughter of a criminal and a teen mother, I have been fighting my whole life. I have been harassed and alone, ever since I was young and the only person that was there for me was Sidney. I just want to thank you for everything, I know I act strong and confident but I am nothing without you in my life," I say looking at Sidney. I give her the trophy and she hugs me.
"Thank you," she whispered as I pat her head.
" To my fans, I want to thank you for supporting me with all of your kind words," I say before Sidney and I walk away.
Another thirty minutes have gone by, I won another Grammy for best traditional R&B performance, James has introduced the pop section and automatically piqued my interests.
"Winner for best pop solo performance goes to New Rules by Sol," he says, making me smile bright. Sidney looks at me with a giant smile. She grabbed my arms and ran to the stage to eagerly get her award. She starts to sob when she gets her award and I rub the tears off of her face.
"Thank you. I'm Sol and I just want to thank the fans for always supporting and loving me. I got someone else to thank. She's right beside me; HER is the person that knows me better than myself. She has supported and loved more than anyone I know. She has been there even when I wasn't there for myself. When I was a child, I was bullied. I was a talkative, sensitive, hyper Asian girl with two dads. I had no one except my parents and her. She protected me and produced New Rules. Seriously I wouldn't be here without her and just thank you. I'm going to go into Korean for a couple of seconds as well. Thank you to my fans for all the kind words and the support," she said before she hugs me and gives me her trophy.
Like that I won three awards for the best new artist, best traditional R&B performance, best R&B performance, and Sidney won best pop solo performance and best pop song of 2018.
