Kai Kayaba, throughout his whole life, was what people could be considered a weakling. Someone who could never be someone special. He was physically weak but was very smart in terms of academics and logic. He searches for ways to become even stronger. One day, when he was leaving school, along with other kids around his age, a mysterious, blue-like portal appears and they were all transported somewhere else, where Hell awaits them. As Kai is struggling to survive in that place, in his dying moments, he wishes he wasn't so weak. He wishes to be in a world where all of his worries are banished, one where he could truly fit in and find meaning in his life. As the darkness took hold of him, he felt himself slimming away. However, right before he did, he heard a word. One which forever changed his point of view. "Arise"
