Sparing no time, I quickly start flying. My flight speed is faster than my running speed so even though this place is enclosed and cramped, I decided to just fly my way through the various rooms and stairs.
Along the way, I met up with a lot of fairies who were either guards or civilians. The moment they started attacking, I would fire a bullet of mana. Weaker fairies instantly died when they got hit while a couple of stronger ones needed a few attacks to be taken down.
Honestly, they're took weak but it couldn't be helped. Most of them them are below level ten. Despite being surrounded by monsters which can easily raise their levels, they only achieved this much.
I asked Erician about them once but it seems that humanoid creatures level up a couple of times slower than normal monsters. I wonder if I'll experience this too one day when I become human once again. Well, it's not like I'm trying to rapidly become crazily strong anyway.
A fairy around level fifteen falls to the ground with a look of fear on his face. Seeing him like this, I can't help myself from grinning in delight. As expected, the feeling of killing something alive excites me. While looking at the fallen fairy's horrified face, my heart starts beating and I'm feeling a little jumpy. However, a bitter aftertaste immediately follows. I quickly start running away from the corpse to get away from that bad feeling.
Another group of fairies blocks my way. Unconsciously, my hands move to get rid of this obstacle.
Die for my pleasure, all of you! I quickly shook my head to get rid of that thought.
It must be because of my bat body but I'm slowly turning into a person who takes delight in killing others. I'm able to quench that feeling but sometimes, I just can't help but let loose.
Suddenly, the feeling of losing something assaults me following the sound of something that broke resounding inside my mind. The Blood Spider, it died!
A wave of memories appears on my head. It's from my fallen subordinate. It shows a room where a single middle-aged fairy is standing. The room is littered with cobwebs, something only my Blood Spider could have done. Such a shame for a useful subordinate like that to die but at least I finally found the target.
Increasing my speed, I flew across the numerous staircases and hallways until I finally arrived right in front of two large doors with exquisite carvings of winding branches and a woman. My right hand waves and following that, a concentrated beam of mana cuts through the doors. They fell to the floor with a sound that sent shivers to my body who's already a bundle of nerves.
There he is at the center of the room, the middle-aged man possessing handsome features and a mature air aorund him. Marquis Saphyrus OakSpirit, the head of the OakSpirit Clan. As a marquis, it's really weird why he would have no guards with him but considering he's the strongest one around here, he probably thought guards are not necessary.
Above his head, a screen showing the words Level Twenty-Eight is present. Just a as I expected, he's strong. I'm currently level thirty right now so I I'm pretty sure my Ancestor skill will have a hard time making him submit.
"Who are you?" Marquis Saphyrus suddenly starts speaking with a vigilant expression on his face. He raises his right palm and from it, a blade of wind appears. "A monster perhaps. No, your eyes tells me your intelligent. So it's actually a demon, huh?"
He keeps talking like that but without letting me make a reply, he suddenly shoots the wind blade. I quickly move to the my right to dodge the attack. Suddenly, a sharp pain from my left shoulder makes my body lose some balance.
Wind type attacks are actually these fast? If I moved a second too late, I probably wouldn't be getting just a minor wound like this one.
I click my tongue before shooting a bullet of mana toward him. Saphyrus quickly moves away from his position and runs towards me, his hand now producing another blade of wind. Without waiting for me to make another move, he quickly fires it.
A barrier of mana suddenly appears around me, blocking the Wind Blade that was about to come. It quickly broke but the enemy's attack is also faded away. A bullet of mana of mana appears on my hand and then flies towards Saphyrus who was about to make another blade of wind.
Upon seeing my attack, he clicks his tongue and moves away. I immediately back away to gain some distance from him. For some time, we kept staring at each other without making any move.
This guy is seriously strong despite his level. I guess this is the difference between highly intelligent creatures and monsters, huh? His way of fighting is also intimidating. The way his eyes moves in battle leaves my breath stuck in my throat.
Dangerous, dangerous. If I don't finish him off quick, I might really die here. Thankfully, I already made my preparations.
"Hmm?" His eyebrows furrows and his body tenses.
This is bad. Did he notice it from my face? But it's not like he can predict what's going to happen anyway.
"Now!" I scream internally and suddenly, the floor beneath Saphyrus breaks.
A green substance in the form of a needle appears. He's moves away but it still grazes him on his right thigh. A certain white worm-like creature then appears from the hole before it collapses on the floor with a thud.
After I ordered it to use all of its mana for that attack, it's now totally exhausted.I turn my eyes towards Saphyrus. His face which was originally light green turns slightly blue in color. His hand is holding his chest, an indication that the poison that inhibits the function of the lungs is now in effect.
Dread can be seen on his eyes as he tried to force himself to breath but it just doesn't work.
"Don't worry, you won't die. If you become my subordinate that is," I wrote in the air with a grin.
Saphyrus shoots me a look of disgust, something which makes my heart beat faster. Unable to control it, my feet just started moving on their own and started kicking the man on the face.
Y-you dare look at me like that? Die! Die!
He's sight is already turning blurry based on the look in his eyes. My head turns to pool at the Toxic Worm who quickly understands what I meant. At that moment, Saphyrus' chest started moving once again. The poison is now gone. The toxic worm's poison that is.
My mouth moves and spits out a globule of Venom Spit at his face. The moment it makes contact with him, it quickly disappears. Saphyrus is back to being helpless but this time, he's not about to die. Just to be sure, I bound him with mana ropes in case he suddenly breaks free of my venom.
When I was about to perform the Ancestor skill on him, a set of hurried footsteps sounds out from the hallways. It stops right in front of the room. It's a teenage fairy with a somewhat pale face and a forehead dripping with sweat. His back is also slouching, probably from the overuse of his wings. It was Erician.
Where had this guy gone too?
"You're slow," I simply said to him by writing on the air.
"I-I apologize Your Highness," He pauses for a few seconds to catch his breath before he resumes speaking. "More enemies are coming. They're from the neighbouring clans and villages!"
That's bad, isn't it? But if the quality of people that comes are the same as the ones I've killed before then it shouldn't be a problem I think. Hmm... I guess it wouldn't hurt to be careful.
I switch my gaze towards Saphyrus who is currently lying on the floor. Before anything else, I should make him into a subordinate first. I hope this really works.
[AUTHOR'S NOTE]
It took me a few days to finish this chapter. I just really can't get in the mood when I'm worried about something.
