A few days have passed since that incident with that scorpion guy and here I am sitting at the counter of my shop while looking at the customers surveying the contents of my shop. Each and one of them are fully geared and looked rugged. They are all adventurers who are preparing for future battles.
Outside, guards are patrolling the city grounds with more vigilance than before. After the appearance of the aurora back then, the scorpion fled quickly but the presence of monsters and demons being spotted did not decrease. Instead, they appeared more often and which made the city guards more cautious than ever.
Honestly, all this drama is getting really annoying. Because of the current situation, everyone's movements are closely monitored. It's tiring to use suggestion all the time so I have no choice but to stay inside shop.
Suddenly, a muscular man garbed in brown painted metal armor approaches me with an excited look on his face. From his getup, he looks like a relatively well-off adventurer. Being held by his hand is a gun type arcane artifact. I priced it at eight gold as it's tier three item. Is he coming here to haggle?
"Hey! Lower the price and I'll buy this," His rough voice is a bit grating in the ears as he talks to me.
As expected, he came here to haggle. I give him a nod before giving a reply. "Sure. That'll be seven gold coins."
"What?" The man's fist slams on the counter, his face raised slightly as he looks at me with a threatening gaze. "Don't be unreasonable! This thing looks absolutely crappy. You-"
Before he can even finish speaking, my hand moves to reach out to the association badge on my chest. While forming a sneer on my face, I place it right in front of his face. His words then comes to a halt as he sees it.
"Well?" I ask him in a cold tone. I feel like laughing though.
The man clicks his tongue while looking at the badge on my hand. With an unwilling look on his face, he fishes out a few gold coins before placing it on the counter. After that, he storms out of the shop.
Heh! So this what having power feels like. Scaring someone without doing anything yourself.
Just while I am thinking that, the presence of someone behind me comes into my attention. A finger pokes on my waist with strength enough to poke a hole through fabric. Because of my high stats, it doesn't really hurt though.
I raise an eyebrow and without looking back, my mouth opens to speak to the culprit. "What do you want?"
"You shouldn't use our association's badge like that. That's abuse of power," A females voice comes from that person. It's Maine.
I can't help the laughter from escaping my mouth. I'm pretty sure the other arcane craftsmen do this all the time too. Since our work increases other people's combat ability so much on top of our identity being huge money bags, it's only natural that they would inspire awe and fear from other people. There's no way thode guys would let this chance to exploit more pass.
"Anyway, there are really a lot of adventurers here, huh? Some are even stronger than the guards." I casually evade the last topic before I pull a chair closer for me to sit on.
Maine also sits on a chair nearby. For some reasons, she's been visiting my shop everyday without me calling for her. It's a good thing though since I got an assistant for free. But why is she visiting everyday though? Could it be that...
She's probably just curious what's a demon king candidate's daily life is. Considering how young she is, it's only natural for her to want to get to know someone she has only heard of from stories. I only intend to bore her though so I normally make her work from morning to afternoon.
