You had been in your quarters for twenty minutes, trying to figure out everything -- why you held Loki's face, why Loki felt the way he did, if his feelings were really genuine, how you will carry out your assignment, if you would continue your assignment.

Why you were feeling so torn, why your heart was still racing, why all you wanted to do was run back and let him search deep in your eyes and lose himself in them.  Why you wanted you hear his heartbeat and pray that it sounded only for you.

Stop that, you think to yourself.  Stop it right now.

The more you tried, the more you found getting lost in the possibilities, and the more depressed and icy your heart became.  You felt your lips frost over, just as they did when you fell into this state.  Your body became frigid, and you folded your arms even though you knew not even the hottest fire could warm you.  Your breaths softly become choppy, and you feel yourself breathing in snowflakes. You look up, seeing that your cold heart had caused it to lightly snow in your quarters.

"(Y/N)?" Coulson hesitantly says, knocking on your door.  You don't answer, but he enters anyway.

        "Please, don't touch me."

"Okay, Sweetheart, okay," he coaxes gently, trying to get you to calm.  You turn around to face him.

        "Phillip--"

"I'll help you, I'll try."  He takes your blanket off your bed.

        "No, please don't--"

"(Y/N), your lips are still white.  You need warmth."

"It won't work.  It's too cold.  I've tried too many times."  Not listening, Coulson wraps it around you, but you're still pale.

"There.  Stay in here until you get better, okay?"

        "But my assignment--"

"Not until you get better.  I'll cover for you, don't worry."

He rubs your back and takes off again.  Within minutes, soup is delievered to your room, but you can't bear to eat.  All your emotions are too busy festering inside you.

I need to walk, I need to get out of here.

You place the blanket back nicely on your bed and start out of your room.  But even though your mind is telling you not to, your legs bring you to the control panel of the glass cell.  Loki's back is to you, he not even knowing you're there.  You want to go up to him, but you hear footsteps coming closer.  You hide, fitting yourself in the gaps of the wall, and you close your eyes, hoping they won't spot you.

From around the wall, you see Coulson come in with Maria Hill.  She mans the panel and allows Coulson to enter.  Loki still doesn't turn around.

"Now you've done it.  She's gone into an ice episode."  Silence.  "Do you know what that means?"  No answer.  "Every plant, every dog, every...living...thing she touches will disintergrate.  I can't even hold her to try to warm her."  Loki still says nothing, and Coulson's temper rises, his jaw clenching and teeth baring.  "Do you know how it feels to not comfort the person you love?"

"Yes," the Frost Giant says weakly.  At his breaking point, Coulson lets his fist connect with Loki's cheek, sending him from his chair to the floor.  Loki doesn't even attempt to get up but tries to catch his breath.

"Was this your plan?" Coulson angrily says, grinding his teeth.  "Did you really think you could toy with her and use her to get you out?"

"There...never...was...a plan," he says, still trying to breath normally.  Not liking his answer, Coulson kicks him in the gut, and Loki coughs up some blood.  He mumbles something, and Coulson leans over to hear better.

"What?  What was that?"  Maria turns up the volume on the panel, Loki becoming more audible.

"(Y/N)," he softly whispers to himself.  Coulson picks him up by his shirt and pins him against the glass wall, Loki still not looking at him.

"Coulson, that's enough," Maria says in her earpiece, but the look on the agent's face only gets madder.

Stop it right now, you hear yourself, remembering your earlier thought.  You come out of hiding and walk up to the cell.  Seeing your boot, Loki scans his head up and lets his eyes meet yours.  Seeing that Loki's mind is somewhere else, Coulson turns around.  You look into the eyes of both men, and you can see the hurt, the anger, the sincereity, all their emotions in their rawest form.  Tears brimmed your eyes, knowing the next minutes, the next moments, were going to crush his heart.

        "(Y/N), I thought--"

"You put him down.  Now."  Relunctantly, he obeys, dropping Loki, who hits the ground hard.  "Maria, you can open the cell now."  She does, and Coulson exits.  The wall reappears, Loki still behind it.  You head out into the hallway, Coulson following behind you and Maria heading off in a different direction.

"I thought I told to stay in your quarters."

"You don't tell me to do anything, Agent Coulson."  Before he can say anything else to you, you storm off back to your quarters, leaving him behind.

An hour later, you hear the door to your quarters open.  You remain unmoved, still standing in front of window, watching the clouds morph and float by.  In the glass, you can see your reflection, and you can also make one of Coulson walking to you.  He goes to hold your waist, and you don't give him warning.  Not frozen, he surprises you and kisses your shoulder, causing you to gasp softly and close your eyes.  You instantly melt from your icy state, the snow disappearing, your lips gaining color, and the image of Agent Coulson disappearing, revealing Loki in his place.  You look back at the window and look right into his emerald eyes.

"Go ahead.  Run.  Scream.  If I wanted to kill you, I would've done so already."

"Then why didn't you?"  He kisses the back of your head, closing his eyes and letting his nose wander aimlessly in the strands of your hair.  You turn around so your facing him, and he gazes upon your face.  You hold his cheeks, letting your thumbs find the area under his eyes.  They glided there so smoothly, so perfectly.

"Why didn't you fight back?  Why were you calling me?"

"In case you didn't feel anything back.  I didn't want to hurt someone you cared about if it meant you thinking any less of me or it caused your unhappniess."  He swallowed.  "I...I was trying to be mortal...to be human."

He places his forehead against yours, and you close your eyes.  Moments later, you feel his lips blindly searching for yours, and you help him find them.
