Your head snapped up as you heard the door creak open. What day was it? Thirteen? Twenty? You had lost count as each day blurred into the next. How could you tell? You slept randomly, haven't seen the light of day. When were the end to the endless hours?

But with new vigor, your heart started when you saw a familiar face run to you. With all your strength, you tried to reach to him, tried to feel his touch once more.

"Tom!"

"(Y/N), I'm here," he says, taking you into his arms. You cried against him as he kisses your temple, your cheek, any bare skin he could find near your face. "Darling, I'm here. I'm not leaving your sight."

"Tom, I—"

"Shh, it's just us two now." His lips find yours, and you let yourself melt into them. It was like something long forgotten, something familiar, but not exactly what you remembered.

"What did he do to you?" he asked, his forehead on yours. "You're freezing."

"The nights are so cold down here."

"It's not because he's a frost giant?" You shake your head.

"He's been careful with that." Tom wrinkles his brow, so you clarify. "If he ever changes into his frost giant form around me, he makes sure to be gentle." With a soft grip, Tom slides his hands from your shoulders, up to your wrists and down to your waist.

"You're with me now. You're safe." He holds you close, tugging at your ropes. "I love you, (Y/N)."

"I love you too, but can you loosen these for me?" He shakes his head, although it seems like he's nuzzling your noses together. "Why not?"

And then your realize why his kisses weren't quite the same. Starting from his eyes, a green glow takes over, changing his loved features into ones you learned to fear. Your heart felt a sharp pain, a knot growing into the pit of your stomach as he traced his finger along your jaw.

"You want to be released, (Y/N)?" You nod. "Then you need to love me, just as you felt when you thought it was Tom."

"I can't. My heart is loyal to him." He brings his mouth close to your ear, his lips skimming yours.

"The child needs a father."

"They has Tom."

"A dead father is of no use." Your eyes widen, your vision becoming blurry with the welling tears.

"You...y-y-you killed—"

"His heart was broken, torn," Loki admits without telling the truth. "There was nothing I could do to save him."

The tears stream down your cheek. You were on your own, your partner in crime gone. As you grieve, Loki kisses your ear.

"I was going to release you, but it was too late."

"We're going to die here," you whisper, not even bothering to lift your head. "The baby..." Loki turns your chin, making your eyes look at him.

"Let me be there. Call to me once more, and I'm here." The tears just kept coming.

"If it weren't for you, Tom would still be alive, and I would be home!"

"If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have learned how to love and have a reason to come back." You silence yourself, and he continues. "You're my first love, (Y/N), of course I'm going to fight to the death for you. All those things I would say to you at night, I meant them. And I expected you to mean what you said, too."

You remembered all those nights, all the sweet nothings and hopes and dreams he would say to you, all the plans to run away from all the problems and pain. His sparkling eyes that only twinkled for you, the same ones that were staring you in the face right at that moment.

"You took my baby's father away from me," you whisper.

"You took my heart."

"You took mine."

"In what way, (Y/N)? Like you did mine or by letting Tom die?" You remain quiet. Loki sighs. "When you can answer with the former, then I will release you. You will leave here my queen, not a refugee." He starts to leave, but you find your voice once more.

"What example are you setting for the baby, then?" Loki turns back to you.

"That love is learned, not sporadic."

"And that love is meant to be kept in chains?"

"But, (Y/N), you don't love me." Without letting you respond, he walks out, but this time, he leaves the door open, letting fresh air and a little bit of light creep in.
