You look up from cleaning off the countertop as Loki slams his fists against the wood.  His nostrils flare, and his breathing is heavy with anger.  Tilting your head slightly, you see his teeth are clenched, grinding against each other.

You look at the clock.  11:09pm.  You've should have closed out the diner and been home by now.  But on Tuesdays, you always kept open a little bit for a vent session.  You were well acquaintaned with the villains of the town, and Loki was no exception.

        "What's wrong?"

        "I'm fine."

"That's like someone saying that they're swimming when they're really drowning."  He doesn't respond.  You finish cleaning, close the blinds, remove your apron, and lean on the counter.  You weren't taking no for an answer.

        "Leave me alone."

"You came here.  You know this is the place where problems are released."

"You wouldn't understand.  No one understands."

        "Why wouldn't I?"

"You just wouldn't, okay?!"  You take a step back.  Loki's never yelled at you before.  He looks down at the counter, not admitting his error, but, but the look of instant pain, he's certainly feeling the regret.

"Everybody loses it, Loki," you console.  "I forgive you.  Sometimes tears turn into rage."

       "It's more than that."

        "Explain."

"I just...I'm sick...of being different.  Of being an outcast.  Even here, even though there's a whole agency of villains and networks of criminals, I am and always will be the Frost Giant.  With S.H.I.E.L.D., I'm the villain, the menace.  Nothing is different from Asgard."

You shake your head, clenching your fists.  "You just don't get it yet, do you?"

"Get what?" he sternly replies.  You stare at him as you let your skin turn a dark blue.  His eyes widen as yours turn a dark red.

        "(Y/N), I..."

"Why do you think I understand so many villains so well?  Why else do you think I let you all sneak in here after hours?"  For once, he's quiet.  He touches your cheek, he confirming that this was your real form.

"Loki, we're all misfits.  We all are out of place in our own way.  That's why we stick together; we're all different.  That's the common thread that links us all together.  None of us may know exactly what the other goes through, but we deal with the same people who have the same general opinion about all of us.  The general public doesn't understand people like us, so who better to understand you than the people they discriminate the most?"

He just looks at you.  You turn back into your midguardian form.

"Consider yourself fortunate.  You have someone to relate to, someone that's just like you.  The same species, the same powers the same Jotun abilities.  So when I say 'I understand,' I mean it."

You walk behind the counter once more, grab your jacket, and turn off the backlights.  Putting on your jacket, you head to the front.  Loki looks at you.  You turn around and outstretch your hand.

        "Come on, time to go."

He takes it, but before you start to walk away, he pulls you into a hug.  After a moment of initial shock, you hug him back.  He was cold, yet had a comforting warmth.

"All this time of feeling forgotten," he says, coming out the hug, "I forgot the person who's helped me the most."

"Don't worry about it now.  Let's head home."
