He was in an empty room, light pouring in from a glass ceiling.  The bare walls were white, a staircase spiraling the entire room.  He thought he was dying, and this was his metaphor of it, seeing you run up the stairs.

"(Y/N)?"  You stopped and turned around, beaming right at him before spinning around and continuing upward.  He started to chase after you, laughing as he did so.  "(Y/N), slow down!"

Suddenly, at the top of the stairs, you both see the Destroyer.  You turn to him, and call out his name right before the bulky guardian pushes you off the staircase, plummetting you to the tile ground below.  He yells after you.

Loki shoots up awake, his chest heaving for air.  He looks around, only to find his room exactly as he left it.  It was still nighttime, the dream still imaginary, a nightmare away from a nightmare.  He rubs his face downward, tired from the restlessness and depressed, the ache in his heart growing.

A soft knock came at his door.  Sighing, he gets up and opens it, only to find his daughter, holding a plush of a (favorite animal).

"(Y/N), why aren't you in bed?"

"I heard you screaming, so I came to check on you."  He couldn't help but break into a smile and feel a wave of guilt.  This was supposed to be his job, checking on her when she had nightmares.  He was supposed to be the comforter, not the comforted.

"Can I sleep with you tonight?" the now six-year-old asked.  He nods as she sllips her hand into his.

"Daddy?" she asks as Loki tucks her in.

        "Yes, Munchkin?"

"You can give me a different name if you want.  If it makes you miss her too much."

That was enough to break him momentarily, a tear slipping down onto his cheek.  He kisses her forehead and hands her the stuffed animal.

"No.  Your name is special just the way it is."

"(Y/N)?"  He had been searching for his adoptive daughter for two hours now.  She was supposed to meet him in the Bifrost after her hour of playtime, but she was no where to be found.  This is what he got for letting her play hide and seek with Uncle Thor.  He had searched everywhere, even the gardens, where she was notorious for hiding in the bushes.

"(Y/N), this isn't funny anymore!  We had plans to tour Vanaheim with Hogun."  Deeming everywhere else in the palace thoroughly searched, he takes a deep breath and goes into the room he never wanted to see again: the Trophy Room.  And there little (Y/N) was, standing right in front of the Tesseract, marveling at its beauty.

"(Y/N)!"  She turned around, not used to his harsh tone.  "I've told you a million times not to come down here!  I have forbidden it!"  Loki takes her by the hand and leads her out and onto the rainbow bridge.

        "But Daddy—"

"No!  You mustn't come down here!  Have I made myself clear?"

'Yes, Daddy," she says, tears forming in her eyes.  Seeing this, Loki lets go and kneels to wipe them.

"I'm sorry.  I'm just trying to protect you."

"Why mustn't I go down there?"

"Well, it's becau—"  Loki looks up, a flowing piece of fabric catching his eye.  He stands up slowly, not believing his eyes.  The back of you.  There you were, walking away, a piece of paper in your hands as you head back into the palace.
