To the eyes of any visitor, they would think that Hurriance Katrina had reappeared and caused all chaos in your living room. Papers--new, crumpled up, folded, coffee-stained, you name it--were flooding the floors and furniture. Where the window used to be was a giant whiteboard, filled with the seating plans for the potential guests; even with that. you still had yet to do the invitations. Too stressed out, you had blown it off, in case you needed to move the wedding day to accompany the planning. And sitting by the unlit fireplace were flower bouquets, points of references for the venues you still had to choose from. And even that, you were still waiting on a check from your boss, a surprise bonus of an unknown number that they were giving you for this occasion.
And in the middle of everything was you, crossed legged and rummaging through the dresses and tuxedos for the wedding party.
This was the mess Loki walked home to, having been sent to the caterer's to try out some food. He closed the door, but you didn't look up, focused on getting everything done. Loki cleared his throat, but you still weren't swayed. Putting the to-go containers on the hallway table, he walked over to you and held your hands down. Finally, you pay him attention, looking up into his sparkling jade eyes.
"Darling, you need to stop."
"We have a month until our prospective wedding date, Loki. And we haven't done anything!"
"That's because you wouldn't let me do anything. Plus, we wanted to go through all the important conversations for after marriage before moving forward, remember?" You nod, and he holds your head against him. For the first time in the thiry-two hours you had been sitting there, you rested and felt at peace.
"(Y/N), you need to eat."
"Right," you say, springing up and heading for the hallway. "You brought home the food from the Villa to try, right?" Before you can pick up the box, he chased you down and snatched up the containers, holding them high above his head.
"No. Real food. Nothing that has to do with the wedding."
"But--"
"No. You've done too much in such a short span. You're temporary banned from any wedding activities." Before you can argue, he pecks your lips a few times. "Take a shower, get dressed. We're going out to eat. And I'm confiscating your phone so you don't even feel tempted to start planning again."
Three days later...
"(Y/N), no darling." You were right back in the rut, only this time, you had a whiteboard in your bedroom, filled with finalized ideas.
"I think I got it this time, Lo'." You point to the board. "See, here's our budget. (Close extended family relative) said they can do our hair and makeup, so that cuts down on the cost. The band can't make it, but my cousin said he can DJ for us. And Mom said she and my grandmother had already made a menu, did you know about that? And--"
Loki covers your mouth gently, smiling into your widened eyes. "Love, no more wedding planning. We already went through this. I don't want you stressing out. Now we have to meet in Asgard for a ceremony."
Within minutes, you both were dressed and walking outside. You look over at Loki, who was adjusting his helmet onto his head. His regular Asgardian clothes were changed, white and cream in place for black and green.
"That's a nice suit," you comment.
"I have it saved for special occasions."
"Mhm, so your brother's coronation wasn't special enough."
"Special for me, not him."
"Ooo, and why is today special?"
"I'm receiving a great honor tonight," he comments. Before you can question, he holds onto your waist and looks up. "Now Heimdall."
Moments later, you find yourself in the Bifrost. As you and Loki head out, you see Heimdall step down from the platform, another guardian switching places with him.
"I have be authorized to escort you," he says, walking in front of you two. You look back at Loki.
"This is very serious, isn't it?"
"Oh, the most important ceremony yet." Heimdall walks you to the water, and a small jet vessel is waiting. You and Loki board.
"This ceremony's not in the palace?"
"This is how special it is," Loki replies. Heimdall navigates the vehicle to the other side of the realm, grassy fields instead of golden streets. As the craft hovers from the water to the land, you see small houses, cottages here and there. Heimdall parks next to a mustard-colored house.
"But this is a house." Taking your hand, Loki helps you out the vehicle.
"Just go with it."
As he leads you around back, you can hear soft, sweet classical romantic music being played. Loki brings your hand up and locks it into his elbow, so that you are holding his upper arm.
"It's getting closer?"
"Yes. Now promise me no talking and no faces, even if you think it's lame. You can tell me after."
"Why would I--"
"Promise me!" Your eyebrow wrinkle, and he sighs. "You're going to have to trust me." After a brief moment, you give him a small kiss on the cheek.
"Okay," you whisper.
"I love you, Miss (Y/F/N) (Y/L/N.)"
"I love you too, Loki Laufeyson." With that, he leads you out, and immediately, you almost break your promise. You were greeted by a beautiful backyard wedding ceremony, white wooden chairs set up in sections, and a wooden arch wrapped with white ribbons and roses. The pathway before your feet was lined with the same ribbon, the petals of flowers marking your way even clearer to Odin, who waited at the end to ordain the wedding. The eyes of your close family and friends were all staring back at you, each one with a smile. Next to you was a small Asgardian girl, the daughter of your servant during your time as Asgard. She handed you a bouquet of white roses before giving you a hug.
Okay don't cry, you told yourself as Loki led you down the aisle. It's just your family and friends...and a complete wonderful fairy tale, but you mustn't cry! Not now! The freedom from the overwhelming stress was hard to fight, but you made it through the ceremony, through the "I do"s, through the first kiss as husband and wife. But once alone with Loki, after the photographer's photoshoot, you completely lost it.
"Darling, what's wrong?" Loki asked, wiping your cheeks. You smile,
"I can't believe you did all this." He smiles back.
"I told you not to worry. Besides, what matters most is our life together after today, Mrs. Laufeyson, and I can't wait to spend it with you."
