Tom's POV
I enter into the house quietly, a bouquet of red roses, a panda bear, and a box of fudge in my hands. I still couldn't believe that I was home a week early from Comic Con. I couldn't wait to spend an extra seven days with (Y/N), let alone surprise her with my arrival.
She's not in the living room, dining room, or kitchen, so I make my way upstairs. I turn the corner and slowly open the door to our bedroom. I smile when I see it's neatly made, for I always left the bed a mess, but my smile disappears because it meant that you weren't there.
That's odd.
I surveyed the room. Everything was in its place, and nothing seem out of the ordinary. I recheck downstairs, looking to see if something could give me a clue as to (Y/N) whereabouts, but everything looked relatively the same as I left it.
Maybe I should call her.
I lay my gifts down gently on the foyer table and reach for my phone and start to dial, but I dismiss the idea. I still wanted to surprise her, and this would definitely send some suspicion.
I look at the clock. 4:30. I smack my forehead, ashamed of my foolishness. Just because I was home early from work doesn't mean you would be. Wanting to dismiss my embarrassment and be patient for (Y/N)'s arrival, I take out a new script and start reading on the patio outside. After ten minutes, I decide to make myself a cup of tea.
After letting the teabag sit in the hot water, I go to throw it out. I open the garbage can with my foot, and as I go to toss the bag, I notice a plastic stick in the trash. With the tilt of my head, I recognize it as a pregnancy test.
And it was positive.
My eyes widen, and a smile comes to my face. I don't know what to do with myself, because the one person I want to celebrate with isn't home yet. I drop the tea bag in and put my hands to my head, still not believing was I was seeing. That wasn't helping, my hands going from my hair, to my cheeks, to my lips, and back again.
I'm going to be a daddy! Me and (Y/N). The love of my life is having our child!
My thought process was interrupted when I heard the front door being unlocked. My head snapped up, and I see (Y/N) coming through the door. She sees the gifts I brought home and her head starts looking for me. I come around the corner to the living room, and she spots me. Our smiles grow wider and she drops her purse and runs to me. I catch her by her waist as she throws her arms around my neck. Before we break the hug, I plant a kiss on her lips, craving the taste of them.
"I love these kinds of surprises," (Y/N) says. I chuckle.
"You have no idea how much I missed you, darling." She takes me by the hand as she puts the fudge in the refrigerator.
"There's so much that's happened that I couldn't tell you on the phone."
"Oh really?" Of course there has.
"Actually, the biggest and most important news happened just this morning." Act surprised, act surprised, I kept telling myself, but there was still a relatively huge smile on my face as she sat us down on the couch.
"(Y/B/F/N) is pregnant." My smile quickly disappears. "She came over this morning because lately, she been curious, so she did the tests here so (her husband name) wouldn't find out. She said I could tell you, and they're asking us to be the godparents."
My heart drops, and I can hear it pound against my chest, it shattering in pieces. Tears brim my eyes, but not of happiness. Before I let them fall, I get up and make my way back to the patio. I put my hand to my head, trying to lose myself in my work, but the pain was too much. I look out the corner of my eye, and I see (Y/N) is standing right next to me. She places a shaky hand on my back, and I let a tear escape.
"Tom?" She rubs my shoulder, and I look up into her (e/c) eyes. She pulls a patio chair closer to me and sits. "I thought this news would make you happier."
"Darling, I am happy, and honored, but..." I sigh.
"But...?"
"I saw the test in the kitchen garbage, and I...I assumed...I thought..."
I couldn't bear to finish my sentence. Her eyes fell just like mine did. I couldn't look at her, knowing I would just unleash all the tears I was working so hard to hold back.
"You were excited?"
"Of course I was excited. I've always been ready. Ever since the moment we said 'I do,' I couldn't wait until that moment when you would tell me that we were starting a family together."
She doesn't say anything for a moment, but then she tilts my head up and kisses me deeply. It alleviates my pain, and I push back with more vigor, whispering "I love you"s in between kisses.
"Tell you what," (Y/N) says, her lips skimming mine, "I'm going to grab the fudge from the refrigerator, and you're going to go check the garbage from the upstairs bathroom."
The garbage from the upstairs' bathroom? I wonder as she walks away. And then it hits me. I snap my head, and she looks over her shoulder and smiles. I chase after her, wrap my arms around her waist and spin her around before pecking her lips again. Joy flowed from my eyes, and an unerasble smile radiated from my face.
This is actually happening. We're going to start a family.
