Dimitri loved being around children, he knew that much because of his nieces and nephew, but he had thrown out the idea of having his own family, knowing how utterly and abysmally rare it was for Dhampir men to have children with a Moroi woman. Yet each time he was the one walking around with Alec on his chest, he felt extremely comfortable.

It didn't matter that he got a few odd looks from other older Guardians, it didn't matter that the female student body drooled over the sight, it didn't matter the slightly snide comments he heard from Royal Moroi or other Guardians in the posts as he passed by them on patrol.

Each coo or noise that Alec made had him smiling, which was breaking his untouchable and emotionless god facade, but he didn't care. He had also always feared, that if he did end up having children, that he would be like his father, but each time he saw Kate with Alec, he allowed his thoughts to leave his mind and just focused on the adoring smile on Kate's face, on the fact she looked so comfortable with a child in her arms, or strapped to her chest, how she looked like a natural.

And Dimitri had a hard time not thinking about the fact that he wanted exactly that with Kate. He didn't care if it was via adoption, but he was growing increasingly sure that he wanted that kind of life with Kate.

But then he would be reminded that he and Kate had only been together for a short amount of time, barely an official month, that he was her mentor, that them being together was basically forbidden. Yet he was so sure that he wanted Kate in every aspect of his life.

He hadn't told anyone that, or rather no one that could give him a formal reply and opinion, but throughout the day with Alec on his chest, Dimitri found himself rambling to the boy, just to get it out of his chest. That was until Diana Owens cleared her throat from behind Dimitri, the familiar sound making him freeze in his step before exhaling slowly.

"I never took you for a romantic, Belikov." Diana started as she caught up with him, taking advantage of the fact that he stopped walking, "But I guess that my niece has a different effect on people."

Diana's tone was teasing, heavily so. In all honesty, Diana had seen this story before, just as forbidden but not quite the same, with a man with little to lose, obsessively in love with a woman who could lose everything.

A part of her was glad that her niece had found someone who wanted her despite everything, another part of her didn't want her niece to end up like she did.

"Walk." Diana told him, quickly glancing around to make sure that no one was eavesdropping.

Dimitri did just that, his feet moving instantly, his Guardian mask slipping onto his face as he walked side by side with Diana. This wouldn't be the first conversation that Dimitri had with Diana, nor would it be the last he assumed.
