Part of the Series – Book 1 of the Emma and Matteo Series
REVIEW –
The story takes shape from the New Amsterdam Theatre where Emma Simone, our female protagonist, is sitting to experience the orchestra conducted by the maestro of the evening, Matteo Giordano, our male protagonist.
Emma Simone has been assigned to bag a one on one interview with Matteo Giordano, a seemingly mysterious man, and with the promise by her uptight boss that if she succeeds she will be the new owner of the title of Arts Editor of New York Chronicle.
Twenty two year old Emma who quit her school when the job offer came from the New York Chronicle is excited to finally land a position that she has worked hard for and deserves better than anyone.
When the orchestra begins Emma finds herself enticed by the dark and despairing composition being conducted by the peculiar and handsome Italian maestro. And as soon as the piece ends Emma rushes to get backstage to acquire an interview with Matteo, however his bodyguard Harold stops her from going in saying that the master will not be entertaining any journalists today.
Maybe luck was on her side or maybe it was fate but Matteo invited her backstage himself. Ecstatic that she may finally get the interview that is the key to her dreams Emma follows him to a room where her hopes of getting a few answers from the maestro are shattered. Matteo invites her to dinner but she quickly dismisses the invitation by saying that she isn't some inconsequential journalist who's only good for a fuck.
With this Emma decides to show the talented Maestro that actions do have consequences. With their first meeting having not gone ideal, and their first impression of each other being not that very nice, the two seem to have a long dark road ahead full of bumps.
Emma believes in putting her heart out there for the world and if it gets hurt she chooses to embrace the hurt. She is willing to help Matteo with all her might but how much can you help a man who doesn't wants to help himself and is convinced that he deserves to remain a lone wolf.
While Matteo isn't too fond of intimacy and and travels across the world to perform his shows, never staying too attached to a place he can even call home. He has a past that haunts his nightmares, a past which causes upheaval of abhorrent emotions in him whenever he conducts the dark and haunting compositions.
What happens when they realise that they need each other?
Will Matteo's past let him move on or will it become too daunting on both him and Emma?
