Twenty One year old Sky Atkin, our female protagonist, is being exposed to the world as Jake Caplin's girlfriend in the opening of the story, through a media article gone viral. The article states that an exclusive source came to them and spilled the beans on Jake and Sky's relationship.
Sky is a fashion designer and proudly the owner of Wanderlust, her store. Sky has been in a relationship with Jake Caplin, our male protagonist, for about 5 months by the time the media article exposes their hidden love story. She has been aptly defined in the article as a funny, humble and confident person. When revealed to the world, Sky comes to face the harsh truth that trying to stay sane when most of the limelight is focused on you and your love life isn't facile.
Jake Caplin is a multi-platinum singer-songwriter deeply devoted to his career and his beloved girlfriend. He tries to manage his time around his career and Sky, one of the biggest concerns of Skys father at the starting of her relationship that Jake wont be able to give time to Sky. Around the profession of singer and songwriter, giving time to their loved ones comes as a big task simply because they are always on the road doing various events if not the promotion of their music.
As we experience in the first chapter, our protagonists cherish the time they get to spend together due to their hectic schedules mostly colliding with each other. Sky tries not to get hurt by the spontaneous changes in Jake's schedule by either his label or his management, but somethings are bound to hurt. Yet, she chooses to respect and encourage Jake's occupation for she knows Jake's passion in his career.
Trust is said to be the key element of a relationship and it candidly is but when one's mind is split in two personalities it becomes hard to trust anyone no matter the amount of love reflected by them.
With a secret weighing on her head, now that her and Jake are nearing the six month mark in their relationship, she feels more overwhelmed than ever. A secret that Sky thinks is bound to tear them apart, if only she realises the strength in their love and understand that the secret may not be as harmful as the destruction being done by keeping the secret hidden.
There are too many grammatical errors which makes it rather difficult to decipher what the author wants to convey. The story is quite captivating plot-wise. It is not written much smoothly with some misplaced details, say something is mentioned and then in the later chapters it is changed arousing a lot of confusion on the reader's side. The characters were good, they had room for improvement which was visible in the last chapters.
The author has built the female character with a bipolar disorder to raise awareness and show how the disorder affects a person's mind, daily-life activities and others around them. The female lead is reluctant to take the medicine as stated in the book for it makes her feel very numb. But later on decides to finally take on others advice of going on permanent medication to progress mentally and physically. The story has the potential to become even better and great.
