                           Based on a gruesome reality of this world , the author tries to make us understand what actually goes through a rape victims mind. Eighteen year old Ryder Burke is known to be a bit of a floozie , well floozie is putting it a bit casually , in the small town of Madison , Colorado . Ryder had a couple of friends before everything went down , before she experienced the biggest betrayal of her life . They were Mason Brenner (Ryders on and off fuck buddy), Georgia Brenner , Paloma Ortiz and Ryan Morgan (Georgias boyfriend). On New Years Eve something happened that Ryder was not expecting , something she thought would never happen in a small town like Madison , rape , her rape .

                            She was drugged and then raped by Mason Brenner and Ryan Morgan . But when she came clean and told everyone what happened , no one believed her. Why would they , why would they ever believe a slut , someone who doesnt take the gender in mind before fucking that person . Her so called friends left her side , left her alone to deal with the PTSD and nightmares of that callous night . Her fathers, David and Ross believed her but what good can they do when Ryder herself rejects the idea of filing a report against her abusers.

                          Georgia turns her back against Ryder and straight out says she doesnt believe Ryder .Paloma does believe in Ryder but backs down from helping her .

                         The story is set one month after the incident and shows how brutal the world can be when they dont believe you , when they think that you are nothing but a slut and a liar . And in comes Weston Stark , a new transfer student from New York who tells Ryder that he believes , that her eyes tell him that she is not lying . Ryder takes it all , all the harassment in school , all the snickers and whispers , nights full of dreadful nightmares that tear away her sanity , panic attacks whenever an unfamiliar man tries to touch her because she has no choice . What do you do when no one believes you ? Nothing. You can't do shit .

    

                             Mason and Ryan still torment her daily and they have help too in the form of Ryders ex – bestfriend Georgia Brenner and all of the school . Weston Stark tries to help her (Ryder) but for what possible reasons remains unknown to Ryder .

                                Read this book if you want to feel the terrors of a rape victim , if you want to have just a bit of a glimpse of the unsheathed glorying ugliness of the cold hearted world we live in. This book swallows you in , takes you in the world of Ryder Burke , a girl who likes a little too much sex and trusts her friends with everything she has got .

AUTHOR APPRECIATION –

                          The author , Rachel , has impeccable penmanship and she has shown every little detail that entails ones life after going through something . She has given examples and she has described things in a way that will tug at your heart. I myself have cried a couple times while reading the book because the cruelness , the heinous comments of ill-minded people are just too much . She has even used legitimate material / comments that actually shows that this happens in real life and slut-shaming has become a norm . She changed my mind of ever calling someone slut , whore or anything hideous . A brilliant mind with a talented hand is what actually is this author . Her writing is immaculate , something that hits you right in your feels.

 

Give this book a go and you will come out a reformed person.
