Part of the Series – Book 1 of Cassandra & Elijah Series
REVIEW –
When Myths come to life and darkness starts revealing itself in all it's unconcealed abhorrent glory, you have to realise that a life led in darkness till now won't be suddenly bathed in light or maybe it never will receive even an ounce of light, something Cassandra Price has yet to come to terms to.
In all her twenty four years of life, Cassandra, our female protagonist, has never set her foot out of the soil of New York City. A traumatic childhood was gifted to her upon her birth, the very people who should have ensured her safety left her in a trash can to be found by the system and circulated from house to house. Thus the very reason Cassandra desires to go by just her first name. Jumping from one foster house to another, each one proving to be far worse than the last one, making it impossible for her to attain any kind of schooling.
Left with nothing to do but waitressing in a diner in New York, she resorts happy to have some control over the course of her life. This enticing story begins from the Joe's diner where Cassandra is working. It is in the very same diner where she meets Brent, a regular, dressed impeccably who orders nothing more than a coffee every time. But today it seems Brent has something more to tell Cassandra. Something he thinks she will be glad she heard, with that he asks her to dinner and she begrudgingly says yes.
But when the time comes for their dinner Brent shows up to the diner to take her, he has to fend off some creatures who wish to steal her away. Within an hour her world shifted off its axis, Cassandra comes to know that the eloquently spoken regular is a Moroi, a vampire, creatures of the night, creatures who have piles upon piles of myths lined up.
Brent tells her that everything that has occurred in her life has been for a reason, a reason why darkness, evil follows her footsteps. Something that is brewing inside of her, something that has not revealed itself yet but is quite easily sensible to her blood-hungry predators. Brent asks her to fled to Russia to his elder Elijah de Ricci, our male protagonist, or Lyle as he likes to be called for her protection from the cold hearted predators who are searching the whole Earth for her, who want to catch her and have no intention of letting her go, ever.
With some rubles, a map and Russian travel companion she sets of from New York to travel to the cold and freezing land of Oymyakon, Russia where Lyle resides away from the whole world in seclusion provided by the coldest city on Earth.
When Cassandra discovers that seven centuries old Elijah de Ricci is one of the most oldest and powerful vampires in existence she needs to know what is so harmful that she needs to be placed under the care of the creature of night.
Danger lurks in every corner, creatures that were once a myth are now scouring every city on Earth for her, with a prophecy that ensures either her or her protector's demise and the uprising power inside her Cassandra has to find some way to turn the wheels of fate or succumb to the cruel reality awaiting her.
The writing of the book is immaculate and the plot is very enticing as well. The characters actions and their consequences have been well thought out by the author. The story lures you in and makes you feel as if you are part of it.
